No one is saying Ohio played fantastic football.  But the breakdowns were on defense and giving up the 90-yard kickoff return.

I'm really don't think you complain when you score 56 points.

Ohio is struggling to play consistently for four quarters right now.   Their playmakers, particularly on defense, need to make a few more key plays in order for Ohio to contend for the MAC Championship.

Yeah, mid 3rd quarter when it was 21-21 and EMU was running and passing allover us and about to go in for the score to make it 28-21--it was terrific.  EMU is one of the all-time great teams.

Meanwhile NIU thrashes CMU by 21.

But go on, keep telling us about how this was a monumental performance against an incredibly imposing opponent.

It should be said that NIU was also tied with CMU in the 3rd quarter...just sayin!

Yeah...I watched a good portion of this game after the Ohio game was over.  This game could have gone either way.  Certainly not a "thrashing"...did you watch any of it, Monroe?

NIU outscored CMU 31-3 over the last 3 quarters.  How'd we do vs. CMU in the last 3.

Offensively we did fine against CMU down the stretch, but defensively, not so much. Ohio's 20 in the second half is very comparable to NIU's 31 in 3 quarters. The difference was the 16 Ohio gave up which turned out to be too much.

Have dried out from my visit to EMU-land. Was a soggy day, with spots of sunshine, but a nice win against an EMU team that came out fired up from the loss of a teammate.  I arrived late, but fortunately they had a few seats left, and got to meet Deciduous Forest Cat. I also got to talk to some EMU fans, and they were friendly and good hosts. Despite the weather, I enjoyed the visit.

No wonder they have such small crowds there.  Stubhub is selling tickets to the EMU-WMU game for $105 a pop!  No thanks, Ticket Oak.

Haha.. They were $10 at the window - general admission (sit wherever). Reported attendance was 3900, i think, which was 2-3x too high. It was band day, and there were only a few bands in attendance - 8 total, i think, only 3 seemed to have more than a handful of people. The shame is, it's actually a very nice stadium.

It was really good to meet you and your son, LC. Unfortunately the downpour that greeted us in the second half meant I had to get my kids to the car. Would have been fun to chat a bit more. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip and safe travels on the way home.

I'm back home already. You did leave to early, though. The sun came out for most of the 4th quarter. As the game was ending, though, my son and I sprinted for the car as the sky was turning very black, and it was very clear than another wave of rain was on the way. We made it in time, but it did pour again shortly after.

It was nice meeting you and your family, too. They all seemed to be having some fun, despite the weather. I hope your return trip was also safe.

I believe that NIU outscored CMU 31-3 over the last 3 quarters whereas we outscored CMU 20-19 over the last 3 quarters.

I get that comparative scores are not a great barometer...but better than taking big stats against EMU as an indicator.

Ohio's offense is performing pretty well. If they can get the run game moving a little better, it will be a real force. The defense, however, has been giving up far more yardage on the ground than I'd like to see.  Hopefully they can find the answer before we face Buffalo and BG.

If we can stop (heck, even slow down) opposing run attacks, I think we go to Detroit.

While I'm glad that our boys moved to 5-2 this season,  I'm finding it hard to celebrate it considering it was a day after an EMU player passed away.  Prayers to Ypsilanti.

Just thought I'd bring this one up again so those who saw the loss to CMU and subsequent wins against EMU and redhawk as indicating that we were playing good ball.....as opposed to some of us who saw reality.
