Lets all agree to stop pretending this is a "this season" problem. The wheels fell off early last season, perhaps somewhere around the Marshall/UMass game.

We *barely* beat  a very bad UMass team. We pulled out a win against Buffalo at home that we could have easily lost. And then we beat Akron by one score at home (uggh).

And then came the 2012 meltdown against quality opponents (sound familiar?)...Miami, BG, Ball State, Kent. The Ball State and Kent games were BLOW OUTS. The BG game was a national TV embarrassment (again, sound familiar?).

We then beat an awful team in a bowl game and that seemed to erase our memory of how bad last season truly was.

In conclusion, this is two years in a row that we've been uncompetitive with the "class" of the conference. And we haven't even seen Toledo or NIU!

I don't think the problem is bigger than we think...

Many here have said exactly what you said, ever since TT originally got hurt last year this team hasn't been the same. That is exactly what most think.

I don't get it. If he never fully recovered, play someone who isn't hurt. You gotta be able to run.

That simple. What are we all missing?

Some of what is said here is true, but Miami is not a quality program. and La Monroe was not a bad team last year. That was an impressive bowl win and was practically a road game.

I still don't get it.  Yes there was glee for some great wins and it is attributable to this coaching staff and these players.  Now there is disappointment due to some really crappy football in each of the last three years.  Who is that DIRECTLY attributable to? 

Everyone says we have reached a new level...we have.  That is great. Everyone also says we need to get to the next level...If we were at that next level we would not be saying that.  

No one can deny that we are where we are in OHIO football because of Frank..  Do we want to stay where we are?...I didn't think so.  All I am saying is that Frank has to demonstrate that he can move us past where we are or we will slide backwards towards where we were.  I love Frank for what he has done and I want to see him here until he is ready to go, but only if he can keep moving OHIO football forward.

I am completely fine where we are at. In the past three years we have been ranked in the top 25, beat Penn State, won 2 bowl games and went to a MAC title. The only other thing I could want is to MAC title. and we were a fg away from that. The title will come we just need to be patient. Yes we may have had an off year this year but I guarantee that without Frank an off year for us will be 1-11 and an on year for us will be an 8-4 season and making a bowl.

That's actually a very apt assessment. Good, but not "good enough"...at least for some.

Congratulations to the apologists.

The bottom has fallen out and you're all fine with it.  You wouldn't recognize a distinct collapse if it came with a neon sign in 30 feet tall letters.

The key games this year were Beefs, BG and kents.  They were our path to the MAC title game.  But we went 116-16.


Hey, rub a little dirt on that broken arm and that ruptured aorta.  Clean that windshield--that'll remedy those flat tires and broken axle.


Answer me these:  How could it be worse right now?  What would it take for you to recognize that there's something significantly wrong here?


You all think I get joy out of this.  That's not it at all   It's that my head isn't in the sand and I recognize reality.

I am glad TT is a senior, because in some of your minds he would have a pass to start for the rest of his career because we beat Penn State with him at the helm. We have a defeated mind-state, we accept mediocrity. As long as we make a bowl game everyone is happy. News flash 70 teams play in bowls, it is time to step up.

Maybe we are looking at this backwards - we have always just been mediocre and only caught fire for a few games at the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012 seasons.  And if you look at it from that angle, we can still consider ourselves on the upswing rather than in decline.

I don't call 6-6 necessarily a crappy but I do call the CMU, KSU, UNYB, and BG games crappy football this year and the Miami, BG games REALLY crappy games last year. I would point out that it is easy to be above average in a football league if you have teams like EMU, Miami and Akron in the league..those should be automatic victories. So far they are the only victories in the league this year..I am not satisfied with that. We are 3-4 in a league where we have only played 2 teams with winning records that may be above average but I am not satisfied with that.

I am agreeing that we are at a better place than we were before Frank.  All I am saying, otherwise, is that I thought we wanted to have a program that played hard and competed week in and week out.  That has not been the case.  

I also did not say FIRE FRANK.  I said that he cannot be held blameless for what happens in the program and that he has to take some action to demonstrate he is in charge and can do better.

Heck, I am one that maintains that our efforts should be focused on becoming the best of the MAC before put ourselves in the category of those vying for a national championship but now it seems we are content with just being thought to be among the best of the MAC at the beginning of the season.  Some folks seem to shake this season off by saying it was disappointing to not win the MACC but we are still better off than we were.  Not winning the MACC was disappointing last year and the year before that. This year it is down right discouraging that we are not even in the picture.

One last thing.  Frank put it altogether in Nebraska. He has not done it here.  That is not a criticism but it is a reality.

What is frustrating for me, as a fan, is that the Penn St game showed us something: potential.  Potential is a very dangerous thing.  That showed all of us that we have the potential to hang with and beat a decent BCS conference team.  The problem with potential is that it isn't consistent.  If you ask me if I'd rather see our team lose every non conference game against BCS conference teams and dominate the MAC, or win a random non conference game against a good team and be mediocre in the MAC, I'd choose Option A without hesitation.  What good is a win like Penn St when you can't beat average MAC teams in the same year?  Sure, we can pound our chest for years and say "Hey remember when we beat Penn St!?" That's awesome (sarcasm alert).  I remember the Penn St win...but seeing this group of core seniors a year later, with that same potential, getting outscored in the month of November 123-16 by three MAC teams takes a little wind out of the sails for me on this group of seniors.  They had the potential to be really great, the potential to compete for MAC titles, and all that potential got them was one marquee win and a long list of disappointing and embarrassing losses.  This group has won a lot of games, a lot more than OU traditionally has in football, but I'm still feeling like this group has massively underachieved in MAC play.  That has been their consistency.  Losing at home to Central Michigan and Kent St this year was inexcusable, in my humble opinion.  If we are losing games to sub-.500 MAC teams at home, just how far have we really come?

I am not saying we should fire anybody, I am saying let's expect the best. Let's be willing to bench a starter if needed. I am tired of everybody making excuses, if he is not performing, go with the next option. We will never be BCS busters if we accept mediocrity. Go Cats.

I'm the last guy to point fingers at anyone and I always give the benefit of the doubt, But to go from a 6-2 team and then losing your next three by 123-16 seems almost unbelievable. I didn't see any of the last three games, but for those who did, did we even show up? Were those teams that much better than us?

We're 7-8 dating back to last season's BG game. Even worse, we're 3-7 in MAC games. Even worse than that, we've had losses of 49, 31, 27, 25 and 22 points in MAC games during this stretch. If this happens once, well, maybe it could be considered a blip with extenuating circumstances.  If it happens two seasons in a row, it's no blip.
