They're leading Fresno 42-41 early in the 3rd qtr.  Fresno not looking like a BSC buster today, so NIU might grab some of their votes this week.

It's good for NIU, but kinda torn.  I want Fresno to loose, but if SJSU would loose, it opens up another bowl slot. Either way, NIU is benefiting from this crazy game.

I don't think SJSU will have any effect on the bowl picture.  MWC has one open slot left, and that should be filled by Colo St, which plays at home vs AFA tomorrow.  AFA is only 2-9, so CSU should get the win, which would make them 7-6.  SJSU at 6-6 likely won't be in the running for any bowls.

All things being equal, if you were a bowl selection committee, who would you pick:Ohio at 7-5 or San Jose State at 6-6? Shows what records mean.

There will be several more teams eligible than spots so our best path to a bowl is for the Beef O'Brady's spot to be tied to the MAC and NIU to make the BCS and then the MAC should have 6 tie-ins.  We need Northern Illinois to beat Bowling Green and Central Florida to beat Southern Methodist (and not jump NIU in the standings - which they shouldn't).  If that happens we should land in the Poinsettia or Beef O'Brady's Bowl.  NIU would be in the Fiesta.  BSU, BGSU, Buffalo, Toledo, and Ohio would go to the Pizza, GoDaddy, Potato, Poinsettia, and Beef O'brady's in some combination.  We very probably would not be in the first three games.

You sure? If you're one of the more attractive bowl teams...I'm going to St. Petersburg or San Diego over Boise and Detroit. We may end up somewhere rather chilly.

Last year Shreveport was "chilly" and yet the game was great.

Kind of a shame so few points were scored in the second half. They were on pace for some modern records with the score at 42-41 at the half.

Depends on the bowl.  They're all about butts in the seats and eyes on the tube.  An East Coast bowl would likely tend to pick Ohio because it's better known and has a larger following/alumni base back here.  A West Coast bowl would probably go for SJSU, especially since it has better pub with its win over Fresno than we've had this season.

I get what you say, but we don't get butts in the seats. Doubtful SJSU would either, although they might be more excited about just any bowl than Ohio fans are.
The TV ratings have more to do with what other games they are matched up against and the game being competitive. Their final game of the season will leave a more lasting impression than our win.

What do you mean you we don't put buts in seats? We had over 13,000 on a Friday afternoon the day after Thanksgiving!

Billy, he means butts in seats for the actual bowl game, not the regular season...

We have claimed for the last 5 years that an East Coast bowl would be inclined to take Ohio, and we have yet to play in one.

When BG upsets NIU in Detroit this point will be moot.

Oh, I get it.  But you know, that was 10,000 more than showed up for the MAC East championship game yesterday at Buffalo, according to ESPN.  They admitted to having only 2,622 people in a 60,000+ seat stadium for maybe the biggest game in Buffalo history.  I'd say we did alright.  We had the 2nd largest crowd in the MAC this week.

So, you're saying that next year people will say that we're East Coast bowl attractive?

At least they admit their attendance. Funny how we had 13,000 in attendances and the 1st 3,000 got a free blanket. As I'm leaving the stadium I saw them carrying boxes of the blankets away to storage rooms.

I don't know about the blankets, but to me this picture says many more than 3,000 were there:

I arrived by 1:30 and the blankets were gone. So I'm not sure what you saw them carrying...but I don't think it was blankets. My wife even asked someone at halftime and they said they were completely out.

You'd be blind to think there were less than 3,000 people there yesterday. Not a good crowd, but certainly more than that.

ESPN apparently left a number off at the end of the BG-Buffalo attendance.  Buffalo's student newspaper says the announced official paid attendance was 26,226.  And the pictures they have show a lot more than 2,622.

I don't see that happening. NIU has been there before (4th consecutive MAC title game) and is going for its 3rd straight MAC title. This is not a Ball State 2008 situation all over again where a school has a freak breakout season only to be humbled in the title game.
