Toldedo fans and us both agree they deserve it more than us, so what exactly could it be other than name recognition or tv ratings?

I understand what L.C. and others are saying about how teams are chosen for these lower tier bowls, but I still can't blame Toledo for being angry.  They were better than Ohio but still snubbed.

I don't blame them for being upset. I do blame them for making the wrong argument. I don't recall even one post in the whole nine pages on their forum where any Toledo alum tried to make the argument that Toledo would bring more fans to the game, or tried to argue that a Toledo-ECU game would have better ratings on TV. It isn't a slam-dunk that Ohio will bring more fans, nor that Ohio will have better ratings, but they don't seem to understand that those are the reasons for choosing one team over the other, not which team "deserved" it. Schaus understood what the correct argument was, and he apparently made it effectively.

We can help. Tickets for kids.  Sergeantfan posted this in another thread, but, this is huge.  Last year in Shreveport I met some of the kids who benefited from this.  It works. Tickets are listed at $55.00. Every one makes the Ohio argument over Toledo.  We, fans, can't make tackles, but, we can, in this way, help Ohio become more attractive to bowls.

I thought we were done after NIU lost. Really didn't give going to a bowl much thought from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. I don't blame Toledo for being mad. But they should also add themselves to the list of people to be mad at. Beat Akron and you're in.

Agreed. Stop complaining or worrying about why we were picked. PROVE they made the right choice.

If we can consistently show that we support OUr team better than the other MAC schools (and I think we do), we will frequently find ourselves in these sorts of games.

"Best fans in the MAC" should be more than just a slogan.

I called the ticket office, 800-575-2287, and purchased "donation" tickets for $35.00 each. We have to do this.

To follow up on my "living in the past comment" I found this comment from the Toledo board particularly hilarious:

Wouldn't the name recognition of Toledo offer more of a draw to locals than Ohio U. Maybe they did think it was THE Ohio University

It isn't Ohio fans who are delusional, it is Toledo fans who are delusional. Our brand hasn't been just "Ohio U" for years now. The leadership at this University made a concerted effort to brand this school as OHIO and that effort combined with our string of highly visible success is starting to pay dividends.

This isn't 10 years ago. The Ohio brand runs circles around the Toledo brand.
It isn't a coincidence we are in a bowl game higher than many expected or that we are selling the naming rights to the Convo and Peden.
Very exciting.

Well, we were being called "Ohio" in some newspaper sports stories before the University of Toledo even became a legitimate university in 1914.

10 years ago Ohio had TOS in basketball and Knorr in football. It was a very average MAC athletic department in those days. The website was terrible and was poorly updated. It had the quality of a church website. Toledo had athletic scandals that have hurt the schools image.
