After the losses to BG, BSU and KSU, I didn't feel that we gave it our all. After this game (save for one bonehead penalty), I really felt we gave it our all. Strangely, this is the best that I've felt after a loss in a long time, or maybe ever. I'm reminded of that statement that's etched in the stadium at Nebraska, if I'm recalling correctly:
In the Deed the Glory!
There are four inscriptions. Dedicated in 1923 as Nebraska's War Memorial two inscriptions honor Nebraskans killed in our wars, two honor the athletes and their efforts in competition.
Inscribed on the four corners of Memorial Stadium and preserved despite construction is the following words, written by former UNL professor of philosophy Hartley Burr Alexander:
Southeast: "In Commendation of the men of Nebraska who served and fell in the Nation's Wars."
Southwest: "Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory."
Northwest: "Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport."
Northeast: "Their Lives they held their country's trust; They kept its faith; They died its heroes."
