When I was there two weeks ago there was heavy equipment on site, and the contractor trailer was also on site. It appeared they had just begun clearing some of the fencing around the area. Haven't been back since.

How can you tell what all that was for?  The whole damn campus is under construction.  FYI, I also saw the same equipment behind Peden doing the work you are speaking of.

I took these photos in Athens last week. It's safe to say they're at least doing something.

They are loading and removing dirt right now and the only thing that has slowed them in the past 2 weeks has been rain. They are full go weather permitting.

I heard yesterday Miami is also getting an IPF, but apparently there's will include a football-only workout facility. I wonder if that was ever under consideration for Ohio?

Considering all the BS we had to go through in positioning ours as a student-centered facility, I'm sure that was never in consideration.  Perhaps Miami's approach is due to the fact that it's down the hill from the main section of campus, attached to the football stadium.

Most likely the IPF started out as an athletics-only football-centric idea.  Those types of ideas don't go over well at Ohio University.

That could be, but I was surprised they were adding a new one considering the existing building where the workout facility is now is relatively new. It's immediately up the hill from the stadium, but only about 100 yards or so. I asked one of the Miami coaches about it, and he said football needed it's own facility. So I assume the old facility will be for all other sports.

According to the original university release in December 2010, this was always going to be a multi-purpose facility.  Unless someone has talked directly with the Walters about this, there really isn't any evidence to support the fact that they gave the money for an athletics facility only.

A few points:

- From a logic perspective, it does not make sense for OU to spend the resources on a Football only weight room at the current time.  Most schools go to this so they can have the whole team in the weight room at a given time, others because they may have a different weight program(Penn State).

- It also wouldn't make sense for OU to have a indoor facility that was only for Athletics.  This would sink the budget for Athletics, and by making it a multipurpose center it saves money.  Also for a mid major it makes sense.  The building is a big investment...have it get the most use.

- Put a smile on....

For you older timers, a drive just to the right of the dug up area was a good drive on number one of the old golf course (9 hole course post new south dorms).

If you go to ohiobobcats.com website and click on the "multipurpose center" tab... it will take you to a webcam of the construction site!

So is this thing done yet?  Anybody been inside and see how it looks?  Would be nice to get some use out of it this winter.

Yes its done, here is an updated picture. The donation money didn't come through after we got outscored 123-16 against buffalo/bgsu/kent so we had to scale back a bit.

Not Funny... well maybe a little....
Regardless you can bet on the fact that everyone on campus will want their share of it....

The 49'ers have a webcam with several cameras and you can go back in time to watch the progress of their new stadium.

Perhaps they will use it for mass debates too.
