Did they ever issue an official press release with affiliates and shows for the Radio Network this year? I can't find one. Also, the affiliates in Zanesville and Chillicothe did NOT have the game on Saturday. Weird. I found it on Sirius, but that is usually not something I'd have to do.

Very peculiar that the game wasn't on on the two stations i had. It's almost like no one turned it on the repeaters. Both were carrying regular NPR programming.

Cincinnati-WAOL 99.5 FM is actually based in Ripley, Ohio in Brown County, along the Ohio River and the signal is not very strong. Ripley is in the Cincinnati media market but very much on the eastern fringe. Hopefully other Southwest Ohio Bobcats have better reception than I do for this!

Not sure if they all do it, but the 89.1 station for Ironton area does not play the pre-game, nor the halftime stats discussion, nor the post-game, but instead switch off to NPR-National Propaganda Radio. If I wanna hear MSM lies, I would tune into the concocted news network (CNN), ABC, NBC, MisinformationNBC, and CBS....Marty is awesome but miss Russ too!

Well, I didn't know there was a target audience for Brietbart Sports, but now I do.

As far as I know, this is the first affiliate in Cincy in a while anyway. Heck, the Browns have some affiliates that are only on HD subchannels which 99% of Ohio doesn't have anyway.

Same for Dayton, which is a pleasant surprise. It is not the same station that Marty hosts a weekday show on, it must be two separate setups.

I believe 980 AM had them for one season a while back but my memory is fading.

My main point was, why do they have to cut away to NPR and not stay with the sports broadcast. My 2° point was just fishing. I see I caught a couple ...Lo siento!

One likely reason the public stations don't carry the pregame, halftime and postgame is the amount of commercial matter that's in them. Although the rules have been loosened quite a bit over the years, public stations still have restrictions on the advertising they can air. They usually cover in-game network spots with their own PSAs and programming promos. Not carrying the three segments means they don't have to deal with the network spots in those segments.

That station is only part of the football network. For 10 years or so. Owner's daughter was an Ohio athlete.

Yes, she lives down there now and is a HS and college official, as well as a lawyer.

This list is small when compared to the network Derek Scott built.

I suppose the reason is obvious to some, but I have always wondered why WOUB isn’t the OU flagship. Seeing all those regional affiliates makes it seem more odd. What’s up with that?

You're just too young and wet behind the ears, BTC. There are a few other old farts on here old enough to remember those days. Joe Tait later was the voice of several professional teams in Cleveburg. When I returned to campus in the fall of 1966, after my two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, Joe Tait was my mentor at WOUB where I did some sports shows. One I remember was a college football scoreboard I did with Randy Greene on Saturday afternoons, and a Great Moments in Sports Series. I still have the latter on tape, which I've been planning to digitize. Joe Tait does the intros on those shows introducing yours truly, your humble sports reporter! ;-) A show that you would particularly like is one I did featuring the Portsmouth Spartans against the Chicago Bears in the NFL championship game in 1932. Part of that show attempted to recreate a little of the feel of that strange game played inside Chicago Stadium because of bad weather. After I digitize it, I'll post it here for your enjoyment, BTC.

No, I'm not actually old enough to have attended the game. I just recreated it from newspaper accounts. And, I did, later have the opportunity to interview the Portsmouth QB in that game, a man named Dutch Clark.

Could be that WOUB broadcast Ohio Bobcats athletic contests in the mid-1960s. NPR wasn't established until 1970.

Like someone above mentioned, the pre-post and ingame stuff needs advertising money to sustain what it does. That's not the mission. Why are the games on affiliates? That is just filling in slots on repeater antennaes in markets where they weren't able to actually sell the package. I live in Chillicothe. My wife works for the university branch. There is literally ZERO humans at WOUH. Putting football and basketball on is just the flip of a switch in Athens and is good promotion for the university. The games attract a tad different clientele to the airwaves than the typical NPR show.
