Some players will undoubtedly have it, but not everyone.  It's the new Riddell Speedflex helmet.  For more infomation, Paul Lukas from Uni Watch and ESPN just wrote an article on them,  espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10786582/uni-watch-speedflex-introduces-new-technology-help-alleviate-impact

Thanks. That explains what I was looking at very well. I see that for now you can get it in any size you want, as long as the size you want is "Large".

OK, but all I can think of seeing the hexagonal cut out thingee is Cousin Eddie and " apiece of government plastic" in his skull.

They look like a good idea to me, but a minor step. There shouldn't be much helmet-to-helmet contact, or spearing, so the small amount of flex in the top should be rarely be needed from direct impact. The bigger value may be that the entire helmet will slightly less rigid, be able to twist slightly in normal contact. I also see value in the new faceguard design, if it flexes/deforms more. Any energy that is absorbed by deforming the helmet or faceguard is energy that is not transferred to the players head.

I think it looks like one of those helmet phones.

The side of the helmets say "OHIO" in bigger letters than the "Cats" on the front of the helmet.  Personally, though, I think that this was done to confuse UK in the fall.  It should make their QB throw the ball to an OHIO player at least once or twice during the game.  Some will call it an interception, but I'll always wonder!

The front of the helmet has said that since the Grobe era...
