That's $1 million less than what they paid out last year to three non-conference opponents:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State will pay more than $3 million to Buffalo, San Diego State and Florida A&M to come to Ohio Stadium for games against the Buckeyes this fall.

Through a request from The Associated Press, Ohio State's athletic department released figures that show it is paying Buffalo $1 million to be the opposition in the Aug. 31 opener, San Diego State $1.2 million to play in the game on Sept. 7 and FAMU, a Football Championship Subdivision opponent, $900,000 to come to Columbus for the game on Sept. 21.

The Buckeyes' other non-conference game is at California on Sept. 14. Ohio State's eight Big Ten games do not require a guaranteed contract.

My opinion is a buy game is a waste of time unless you can clear 1 million after expenses. This program is better off trying to get smaller BCS schools to come in on a 1 for 1 deal. In an odd year play a neutral site money game. Try something like UNC at Charlotte's NFL Stadium.

And how has the philosophy of getting smaller BCS schools in town for a 1 for 1 worked for us?

Don't we have Cincy (former BCS school and probably will be again) and Kansas coming to Peden in a few years?

Have felt that way all along.  Will believe UC and Kansas play here when they show up.

Outside of Pitt, what would you say was the biggest non-conference team to play at Peden over the last 10 years?

I'd say UConn, they went 8-5 in 2008, beating MAC Champs Buffalo (who had beaten undefeated Ball State in MAC CG) in International Bowl. In '09, Huskies went 8-5 again, winning last 4 games, including South Carolina in the PapaJohns.com Bowl.

These two teams have shown up for games at Toledo within the last several years (and both were defeated).  Why do you think they won't show up in Athens?
