How can you explain Ryan Boykin getting a tryout/FA deal if Blankenship hasn't?

Beau is undersized for the NFL. Scouts may also look at the drop off in production last year and wonder if he has gas left in the tank, BUTM be damned.

Which is exactly my point. If Ryan's body and possible talent was that much better, then why wasn't he on the field? I think we'll all look back at the 2013 season as one of the stranger seasons in Frank's tenure.

Back in 2011 both were competing as backups to Harden.  Boykin received more carries 104 to 93. However Beau gained more yards, net 462 to 435. Beau's average was higher, 5.0 to 4.2. Beau's long of 48 was better to Ryan's 33. To start 2012 Beau gained over 100 vs Penn State then 174 the next week. Beau was over 100 the next two weeks.  Game over.

Yet Ryan still gets the NFL tryout. It's just odd. It's strange. It's out of place. It's INCONCEIVABLE!

They are both getting tryouts. Not Ryan "gets the tryout." Both are worthy of their chance. Ohio has two very fine backs coming out this year. It is conceivable that Boykin might do better than Beau in the pros.  Roger Craig played behind Mike Rozier yet achieved more in the pros.  Nothing is "INCONCEIVABLE."

Ohio RB's have done very well for themselves for a program not generally getting the  top recruits...a 3 star is usually the cream of the crop.

Chris Garrett has had a good career in the CFL, being named Offensive player of the week twice, once for a 190 yard performance for Winnepeg in the playoffs in 2011 against the Tigercats (after which he dedicated the game ball the Marcellis Williamson and sent the ball the Williamson's family), and again in 2013 for a 152 yard performance for Saskatckewan.

Yeah, and I typed that before it was made public on this board that Beau had a tryout. Relax. And go watch The Princess Bride.

Saints sign four players after mini-camp tryouts. The four were OLB  Cheta Ozougwu, WR Steve Hull, RB Derrick Strozier, and OL Thomas Welch.

Very, very nice to know about that fine gesture honoring his former Ohio teammate.  Glad to hear how well "Mr. Electrifying" is doing in the CFL.  I'll have to check out Winnepeg games and find one the the TV this season.

Garrett was released by Winnepeg after missing 2012 due to a torn Achilles tendon (ouch), and then was picked up by Saskatchewan last season, however, he hasn't hasn't played since the 152 yard game.  Here are his stats for Saskatchewan, and it seems odd that after gaining 152 yards and being named player of the week, he'd be benched or released. Nevertheless, the week after that game he was removed from the 46-man roster, and he never seems to have played again. He was released on Feb. 10th, 2014. We'll have to see if he ends up somewhere this fall.

Getting back on track, while Boykin apparently did not get signed by New Orleans after his tryout, that doesn't mean he's done. If he keeps following his dream, he probably will have more opportunities in the future. Trying to get into the NFL when you are undrafted is a long, tough road, but one that is sometimes successful. Good luck to him and the others trying to make it, such as Prior and McGrath.

Thanks, L.C., for the additional details on Garrett.  I had misread the last part of your original post and thought the last game was still for Winnipeg against Saskatchewan but you clearly said ""for Saskatchewan."  My bad.  Hope he catches on with some other team this fall.  I'd love to have a good excuse to watch a CFL game.  I haven't done that for many years.
