Has a very high opinion of him. Says he's the best NFL prospect he's ever seen.http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AbQbpupdZJA

Heck ya he's something.  What other recruit in the history of football was able to cause a safety at the 4 yard line?

An accomplishment that will surely never be achieved again.

Interesting observation. I spoke with some D coaches and O lineman when I was down for the spring game and they all said he was the best they played all year.

When you look at great LB'rs in the NFL who came from the MAC, this kid surely seems like he could be among them when he's done.

Listened to a national "draft expert" on Chicago radio this weekend and he said he would take Mack #1 and obviously ahead of Clowney as Mack would be his choice by far over JC. Said something along the lines of players like Mack, who play in the MAC, have something more to prove and work harder to get noticed by NFL scouts and can't "coast" like some others can at big-time programs. I don't always put much stock into what "experts" say, but it is an Interesting way to think about it.

How about back to back years of the MAC getting #1 draft picks?

I don't think he'll be #1 -- Johnny A** probably has that locked up.  But he's definitely among the top ten.  He has the skills and doesn't have the baggage that some others have (Clowney -- an appropriate name -- for instance has an attitude problem, or at least did have at SoCar).

If you were Houston and wanted to get some Texas fans in seats, you'd consider Johnny Football. But I saw a projection were they got Clowney #1 and Bridgewater with their second pick. That's a good first two picks.

This is one of the most intriguing drafts in recent years...

I don't understand why drafting Manziel isn't the guaranteed pick for Houston. They did this when they drafted Mario Williams too, and while he was great, he's up in Buffalo now because they couldn't afford him. If they draft Clowney and he's as great as everyone seems to think, how are they going to be able to afford him and JJ Watt? And then they'll still need a QB. So why not just get Manziel from the get-go?

FWIW, I've seen Bridgewater fall as far as the 6th or 7th round from some people. That's alarming.

I don't think that logic makes sense. Anyone drafted number 1 in the draft is going to demand top dollar, or rather, their agent will, and it doesn't matter whether it is Clowney, Mack, Manziel, or someone else. If Houston can't afford to pay a number 1 draft pick, they ought to just trade their #1 pick for some later picks where they can draft people they can afford.

You have more trust in MAC officials going forward than I do.

The greatest part of that play was not the call, but that it couldn't be challenged.

Nice new name.

Mack goes fifth overall, to the Raiders, which is before any Big Tenfinity players, but he was not the first non-AQ player. That honor went to Brian Bortels, from UCF, who went 3rd (and was the first QB selected).

To me, the story of the night is how ESPN reported that Browns owner Jimmy Haslem got advice from a homeless person to draft Manziel.
