Some interesting story lines the source is an Ohio football staff member so take it for what it's worth!

1. Tim Edmonds great guy, strong nasty and fumbles a lot. Dazmond Patterson has lost 10-15 pounds may not hold up but will be utilized as much as possible at RB/SLOT.
2. Dorian Brown redshirt freshman a better faster version of Ryan Boykin (who was sorely under-used)
3. Defense should be really really good
4. Offense too many unknowns WR's have shown flashes Cameron Wilson,Landon ad Sebastian Smith move around a bit..Chase Cochran should be in the slot more. For sure no Lavon Brazil's or Donte Foster types have emerged.
5. QB is Vick not even close his job to lose in games.
6.TE is solid Mangen/Morgan...Davon Henry too many injuries another recent shoulder issue size has been an issue.
7. Only chance to get Joe Burrow is if his father is named Head Coach
8. These are all just one persons opinion and observations so don't lose your minds hopefully we go 13-0 and everyone makes All-MAC.

I'm thinking that the defense will have to carry the team for the first month or so of the season.  The offense has too many guys with too little experience and not enough time together.  We'll probably have to hold teams to under 21 pts to have a fighting chance.

....3. Defense should be really really good...

This, to me, is the key. Ohio has had three good very defensive years under Burrow. 2006, 2010, and 2011. Ohio won the East all three years. Having a good offense is nice, but doesn't seem to correlate as well to winning as years with good defenses. If the defense is good, the Offense will have lots of possessions, and lots of chances to improve, and then it will all work out in the end.

Here's an interesting tidbit that surprised me. In games featuring MACtion (i.e. games where both teams have over 30 points), Ohio is 10-1 since 2007:
2008 - 51-31 over VMI
2009 - 49-42 over Akron
2009 -  31-30 over NTSU
2009  - 44-37 over Bowling Green
2009 - 38-31 over NIU
2010 - 38-31 over Louisiana-Lafayette
2011 - 38-37 loss to Buffalo
2011 - 35-31 over Temple
2012 - 37-34 over U.Mass
2012 - 38-31 over Buffalo
2013 - 34-31 over Marshall

"Defense wins championships."

I am hoping Dorian or Tim or Daz takes over and exceed Beau's 2012 production.

Wow, for some reason I thought Edmond was a LB.

I also had anticipated that Daz would be adding weight to take over full time RB duties, not losing weight.  Hope he can hold up this year.

You aren't crazy - Edmond was recruited as a MLB, but was moved to RB last year.

I would love to know why the defense is going to be really good. We could not stop the run last year, so someone tell why that should change enough for the defense to be that much better than last year.

I believe there is going to be an outstanding, exceptionally deep veteran defensive line, and good defenses start up front. The linebackers will be better than last year, and the secondary will be very good.

Is this a subtle hint that Solich may be considering hanging it up?

Someone refresh my memory: What is the NCAA rule on hiring/promoting coaches to get their kids to commit? Would there be a distinction between Ohio naming Jimmy Burrow as HC to secure a commitment from Joe Burrow, and, say, osu hiring papa Burrow as a defensive "consultant" for $250,000 a year?

Edit to add: I don't want anyone to think I'm starting rumors that we need to start looking for a new DC......I'm just curious (a) if this is a possibility and (b) if this is a potential new front in the war between the NCAA haves and have-nots.
