The SMU coach says the "have-not" conferences should move their games to the spring, just like the third-rate pro league USFL did back in the '80s.  If he wasn't blind-stinkin' drunk when he said it, the guy's a friggin' moron.  Nobody wants to watch football in the spring because they're footballed out from having NFL and college games from August til Feb.  I went to a USFL game in DC one June (free tix from one of the owners) and there were about 17 people there.  Moving to the spring would cause "have-not" schools' programs to go bust decades quicker than keeping them in the fall.  If it's such a great idea, let's move the "haves" to the spring.  SMU should reconsider paying this dope.

I've been listening to Chris Childers on Sirius 91 talk about how great it would be, but he admits that will be some backlash to it. He had the AD from NIU on and he Sean? said that he would have to think about it. He said anything that takes them out of the possibility of playing the big boys in a meaningful game at the end of the year probably wouldn't work for him.
There's so many problems with this that it really makes no sense to me, but the guys are trying to think outside the box I guess.

NCAA agree to essentially kill football for the large majority of it's member institutions by overlapping football with March Madness - no way in hell that ever happens.

That would be one of my main concerns, plus all the other scheduling issues. How about March football in the north. How about recruiting timing ? It goes on and on.

Well that didn't last long. All the non power conferences laughed it off as not negotiable. Next idea.
