Looks like our blackout game this year is vs Northern Illinois. Why would we do a blackout game against a team that will be wearing black helmets and black pants? Why not do the blackout game the week before vs Buffalo and make the NIU game a green out or a ghost out?

That is going to be weird unless Northern Illinois wears all white. A good way to confuse a lot of viewers at home who know NIU for their black uniforms.

Does the home team get to choose home colors no matter what or is there an agreement necessary if we want to wear something other than white? I know we've worn blacks at home before.

Beyond that, I am really pumped for NIU this year. That has become a program that is beginning to get some name-recognition from average fans. This is our premier home game this year. I've been really happy with the atmosphere in Peden the last 5 years. This is a great game to showcase the growth of the atmosphere in Peden.

not that the blackout game has a long history but in the past its usually been the 1st MACtion game of the year, which this year would be Buffalo the week before. Buffalo should be blackout, NIU should be a greenout.

I think Blackout game is usually the "bigger" midweek game. Just so happens it's been the first several times. I believe it was the 2nd game in 2012 vs. BG, with the first being vs. EMU.

By that logic, no question NIU is the more marquee game as opposed to Buffalo. And who cares what NIU wears?? This is our house!

The visiting team was required to wear white until 2009. Now teams just have to wear jerseys of contrasting colors. The home team is allowed to wear white if the teams agree to it in advance in writing. Similarly, the road team can wear non-white jerseys if both teams agree in writing beforehand and the league confirms that the colors are "contrasting."

This is the USC-UCLA Rule, right?

Or the LSU rule. They wear white almost every game no matter where it is. Very seldom do you see them in purple jerseys.

LSU wears their purple jerseys for non-conference home games (excluding the home opener).
