I assume they were planning to allow it until the state issued an open burn ban, so that would explain the not so great timing

A well-known apartment complex in the A-town that sent out an email blast a few days ago stating it was ok to smoke weed on your patio had to follow it up with a please don't smoke weed outside due to the dry conditions causing fire hazards.

Venture over to the OU golf course and you'll get a good idea of how dry it's been here since May. You literally have to look for grass to put your ball on on some fairways. We've been here since 1979 and I've never seen it this dry. I've only mowed my yard twice since Memorial Day.

On a side note, we've been to Colorado and Oregon this summer. On both trips the number of wild fires we've seen has been amazing and a bit frightening. Banning open burning on a burned out field is a good move.

Agree, Alan. However, don't wait til the night before to make an announcement. Not when the ban was put in place last weekend.

I mean the multi-county ban that was announced last week WAS the announcement, did you think the government meant to include an asterisk for tailgating?

Of course not. However, more than one person was told during the week that grilling would be allowed during tailgating, as late as Wednesday. They were told by the same person/department that put out an announcement Friday night that they had changed courses.

I saw the open burn ban last weekend, on Sunday I believe. And I started a thread on the subject at the beginning of the week. The University should have made a decision and an announcement way before the night before pre-game tailgating.

Again, I have no argument with the decision. It was the late timing that bothers me. And I wasn't the only one from what I heard today.
