Before the season started, I thought Ohio would need 4-5 games to get things going. Ohio impressed me against Syracuse, and I am looking forward to how much more they improve this week. I now think Ohio can not only win this, but look like a team on the rise in the process.

We definitely need to improve our pass defense for game 2.

That QB threw for over 400 yards in their loss to a good UNT team.

It will take longs drives ending in touchdown > NOT FGs < to win this.

And some time control using OUr above average running game.

Over 400 yards passing and almost 600 of total offense. South Alabama will certainly be a challenge. They have a good football team. The secondary losses are concerning. Run the ball, finish drives.

Syracuse had 10 tackles for loss against us. We had 2. Can we keep people out of our backfield and can we get a lot more pressure on the QB?

Defenses will adjust to our running game, at some point we are going to have to figure out how to get the ball downfield with some medium routes over the middle and to the SL. Good news is, we have time to get better at that.

Maybe some sets with both Tyus and Hunt in the game at the same time.

75 degrees with a low of 44 Saturday. Not what Mobile, AL gets in early Sept.

For one thing, LBs have to play closer to the line on third and long. Several times we had Syracuse at third and 7+ and the LBs were ten yds deep. Too much of a cushion for their receivers.

SBama was turnover free vs UNT (didn't have any takeawys either) but gave up a TD when the punter kicked the ball off his own player after a bad snap and UNT recovered it in the end zone. He averaged 44 yds on his other two punts.

SBama's defense didn't get a sack and had only ond TFL. They gave up two sacks and three TFLs.

The game notes are up for the week. I know they aren't always updated or completely accurate but I did notice a few changes to the two deep.

Anthony Tyus listed ahead of Rickey Hunt but we know that doesn't really mean much since they typically will alternate each series unless one gets hot

Jeremiah Wood removed since he tore his ACL and is done for the year.

Kendall Bannister still listed on there despite what sounded like a season ending injury.

Adonis Williams still listed as starter despite what appeared to be a concussion.

A few names to watch going forward are DJ Walker at Nickel, and Tony Mathis / Mike Mack at CB.

They have not in the past taken guys off unless they are out for the season.

Actually, a pretty insightful press conference. Watch it if you get a chance. Says they are waiting for MRIs, but believe that Wood and Bannister are out for the season. Said Adonis Williams had toe and "other" issue. Thinks he will be OK but they'll know more later in the week. All other injuries "soft tissue".

Albin is so much more comfortable at this than when he took over on short notice.

Brutal. And this kid could throw for 500 yards without breaking a sweat.

And their offense put up 582 yards.

I wouldn't get comfortable thinking OU is gonna be some sort of bully here. They're already a home underdog. Because Major Applewhite is gonna do Heisman level numbers with this QB.

100%.

Especially after losing Jeremiah Wood, Kendall Bannister, and likely Adonis Williams this week. Not ideal for the secondary.

Looking forward to seeing the growth of our 2 young safeties as well as Dustin Johnson.

No secret to the gameplan. Heavy dose of Tyus and Hunt Jr. Sprinkle in some short passes and hopefully the defense keeps WRs in front of them.

A 40+ point game will leave us excited for more to come in the season.

This is old school football, and I love it. That School in Oxford beat us last year by running the ball down our throats. I hope that we can return the favor this year.

Funny you said that. This squad gives me "06" vibes. Strong running backs and experienced SR QB. I believe the Defense will be good (holding SYR running back under 100).

In 06, Kalvin and VonCarie gave defenses misfits because of the power vs scat back scheme. Throw in a FB (R.I.P. Mitch Morsillo) and we can jump back in the time machine. 😁

According to "The Brewton Standard": "The Ohio Bobcats (0-1) will look to upset the South Alabama Jaguars (0-1) on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium. The line foretells a close game, with the Jaguars favored by 2.5 points. An over/under of 57.5 points has been set for the contest."

The paper further states that the South Alabama vs. Ohio Betting Trends are as follows: "South Alabama is winless against the spread this season (0-1-0). The Jaguars have been favored by 2.5 points or more this season 13 times and failed to cover in all 13. Ohio has compiled a perfect 1-0-0 record against the spread this season. The Bobcats have an ATS record of 12-0 when playing as at least 2.5-point underdogs this season."
