Living in northern Illinois, I've been following NIU's Schedulepalooza this week. It's really exciting for their fan base. Every day this week, the school's AD dept will be presenting a new home-and-home future series for the university. Daily, they're tweeting hints about the next team to be announced. So far, they've listed San Diego State and BYU as future home-and-home series. This has been a big push by the new AD. Must admit, I'm jealous of what they're doing to build anticipation for their schedule.

No doubt that they have a completely different philosophy about scheduling that we do. They've had some real studs at QB which is the single most important position. They are today's version of the old Miami

Clue #1 for fans today: no team from this conference has ever played a game at Huskie Stadium. They're releasing a new clue on social media every hour in the morning.

Hint #2: The future opponent has played at least 3 games in the state of Illinois since 1927.

Hint #3: The future opponent's MBB team has played NIU in Dekalb before.

Hint #4: The documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys"

Should be announced at 3:00 ET

It's a home and home with PAC 12 Utah. BYU, SDSU, Utah, they'll be getting frequent flier miles.

Interesting that they are taking their shots out West. I guess all of those games against Big Ten and AAC are getting tiresome. I love what they are doing. Seats will be filled for these games in DeKalb.

Here's the first clue for today:

#SchedulePalooza hint No. 1: This school has an equine science program.

FBS schools with the program: Michigan State, Penn State, Louisville, Maryland, Nebraska, Utah State.

Schedulepalooza doesn't exactly work when you're scheduling Idaho and Southeastern Louisiana State

A quick internet search looks like that only leaves Colorado State or University of Maryland. CSU would continue their march out west, but getting a B1G school would be quite nice for NIU.

Could be Louisville or maybe Michigan State.

Both of those would be HUGE if they're home-and-home. Let's not forget, though, that we do have home-and-homes with Kansas and Cincinnati in the (relative) near future. I'd say that both of those are bigger than SDSU, and likely bigger in interest than Utah. Kansas has fallen since their little surge in 2008, when they went to the Orange Bowl and I believe were ranked as high as #2 in the BCS.

#SchedulePalooza hint No. 2: NIU’s fourth opponent has changed conferences within the last five years.
#SchedulePalooza hint No. 3: you can visit a @SixFlags Amusement Park in this state.

Gotta be Maryland.

It was Maryland. College Park in 2020. DeKalb in 2021.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. Even more impressive is that each of these teams (in their current iteration) would be on NIU's level. This new AD is definitely putting something fun out there for the fans. Also love the use of social media with this.

I worry a little about further separation between the haves and have nots by 2020. But if anyone can keep up with the big boys it's probably NIU as much as anybody this side of Boise

This is great. Not only is NIU scheduling solid opponents, but they are releasing them in a clever way that builds hype. Well done.

I've seen some knocks on our schedule. Yes, our schedule the next couple years are weak (next year especially) BUT lets realize NIU is scheduling these games out for 2020.

By 2020, we will see Kansas and Cincinnati in Peden Stadium.

I don't disagree that the NCAA is trending towards haves and have nots. Where I differ with some on this board is what side we fall on. Lets play NIU, Kansas and Cincinnati every year. Get rid of the have-nots like Ypsilanti CC. That is a terrible home and home. Waste of time.

Please stop portraying Kansas like they're the lords of Big 5 football. I'll give you Cincinnati because of the regional interest and they've at least been somewhat consistently successful the last 10 years. But Kansas isn't something to get excited about. At least not for me. One glorious run back in 2007 people nowadays barely remember doesn't make them a marquee opponent in Peden.

I'll counter that Kansas is a step in the right direction for at least attempting to get better schools to visit Peden, but that's not a plateau I think Ohio needs to be shooting for.

Kansas is 4-20 over the past 3 seasons and is historically one of the worse teams in the history of college football.
