Yesterday afternoon, as a friend and I were sitting in my family room pickin' and singin', a young bobcat strolled leisurely across my patio, not more that 10 feet from the glass slider, stopped and looked through the glass at us, and then meandered off into my neighbor's yard.

I'm taking that as a good omen for the coming season.

I assume you offered him a beer.

Hope he had a Golden Flash in his mouth.

That's really cool. Wild bobcat sightings are quite rare.

We've been lucky enough to see them 5 times outside our window, including a couple one time. 3-4 years ago, we saw that couple pursuing a squirrel up a tree and trying to catch it. One bobcat went up one tree while the other one went up the nearby tree. The squirrel eventually got away by jumping to the ground and running away, with the bobcats leisurely following it. What a sight.

There was actually a sighting within the city limits of Athens several years ago on the hill where they have since put up Summit at Coates Run apartments. Some used the sighting in an attempt to stop the project from going forward.  In the end, as I recall, the bobcat left the territory of its own volition long before the construction started.  Perhaps, he was bribed by someone in Wonder Hills having free beer night for Bobcats.  Hey, JB, was that you?
