I think we are much further ahead with special teams versus this time last year. I give our coaches credit for recruiting a JC All-American punter. I expect improvement in poise and consistency in our punting game. Fewer blocked punts I hope.
The punt and kick-off teams will have some outstanding athletes providing coverage. We are told that tackling has been a point of emphasis in fall camp.
Yazdani has been stellar since taking over FG kicking duties. Since last year's opening game we have gone from not knowing who was our best kicker, to having a Groza watch list kicker.
Long snappers and holders are experienced and having Bonstetter as holder for FG and XP gives us a true threat for fakes and 2 point conversions. Fake punts too.
My only concern is kick-offs. In my opinion the best kick-off is an unreturnable blast deep into the opponents end zone. I am not sure if we will get that consistently.

As opposed to last season when tackling was discouraged???? :)

Lol, wellllll: I do recall contact being highly limited at practice going into last year due to all the injuries we suffered in 2012

We've had some discussions about this topic. My feeling is there is absolutely NO reason not to spend a scholly or two on a very good punter and a very good place kicker. They are too important in the game today not to excel in this area and it is only two scholarships every couple of years!

Yuuup, and when we laid an egg at Louisville everyone assumed this was why. I think that was part of it. The other part was that we weren't very good.
