Why step down? They win championships, play and beat some of the big boys, that may be making more money when you factor in the playoffs

I hope all the fcs schools beat these power five conference schools. Last I saw ncstate was also getting it handed to them by I think George southern. 
 And Youngstown state is beating Illinois

So, what's new?  There are imposters in FBS that just hang onto the coat tails of the BIGGS.  Look at Indiana vs Indiana State too.  Face it, there are about 30 schools that dominate now and basically have dominated major college football since the 1960s.  Others come and go but we can all name the real players Alabama, Ohio State, Texas...etc etc etc.  These guys own FBS and they might as well go on their merry way.

It wouldn't surprise me if NDSU tries to make the move from FCS to FBS, but it hasn't been that long ago that NDSU moved up from Division II to FCS. They made that move in 2004. As a result, they haven't played all that many games against FBS schools. They have a remarkable 6-3 record against FBS schools prior to today, and are 3-1 against P5 schools (wins against Kansas, Kansas State, and Minnesota, and a loss against Iowa State).

There are some interesting ties between Ohio and NDSU, by the way. The coach that led NDSU from Division II to the top of FCS is none other than Solich's first hire for defensive coordinator, Craig Bohl. Bohl had some issues while at Nebraska, and while he was a bright and capable young coach, he did not do a good job in 2002, the year Solich was 7-7 at Nebraska. As a result he was replaced with Bo Pelini in 2003.

Bohl then moved to NDSU in 2003, where he did an outstanding job as a head coach. His defensive coordintor in 2003 and 2004 was a guy named Jimmy Burrow. His offensive coordinator in 2004 was a guy named Tim Albin. Both moved to Ohio in 2005.

Bohl, after building the program and NDSU, has moved on this year, and is now the head coach at Wyoming.

Anybody in favor of a relegation system for college football in the future? Where the worst 16 teams in FBS go down to FCS the following season, and the top 16 from FCS come up? And do that for all levels...

NDSU is in the Mo Valley in football and Western Wrestling Conference in Wrestling. Everything else (think basketball) is in the Summit which has a $1.0 MM exit fee. Therefore they may look in football but I seriously doubt anything else.

So in one year you tell 25 people they just lost their ability to attend school? And then of course you are going to reschedule in 8 months hundreds of games? Brilliant! Wonder why the NCAA hasn't thought of this?

As I said in a thread last year I have had the pleasure of watching them play(last year at Youngstown). After what I saw Saturday night at Eastern there are a whole lot of teams in FBS they would beat, especially in the mac.

Would just the football team move or would all sports teams move?  I'd hate to have Indiana or Purdue move to the MAC for b-ball just because their football team stinks.

And I wouldn't want this to take place every year.  Fiami won the MACC in 2010 and look what they've been since.  The coach left for Pitt (although only briefly) and the program went to pot.  It should be more representative of a program's overall performance; something like a three-year average.  NIU has won their division four straight years (with two MAC titles), with four different coach/QB combinations.  Plus they were 3-2 vs Bigtenfinity in that span.  Impressive.

It's possible. Gameday has been to BG before but it took both BG and NIU coming into the game ranked and for that game to be played on a Saturday to happen. Kinda hard now with all the midweek games the MAC has now later in the season, not to mention two teams worth featuring at that point. Still, it was very cool for BG as there are many Power 5 teams which haven't hosted Gameday yet.
