Hmmmm. Weird that Vick sat so long at Kentucky and then starts.

I expected Vick to start, and I expect him to play most of the game, but, depending on the kinds of defensive things Marshall throws at him, we may see more or less of Sprague. While both are athletic, and good runners and passers, their skill sets are not identical. I think Vick throws a better deep ball, while Sprague is a better scrambler.

Marshall has announced their starter as well. Unfortunately for you his name is Rakeem Cato.

Cato will always have a losing record vs. Ohio.

Anyway, back to the subject of the thread, it's good to see Solich give his team captain a real vote of confidence. The offensive breakdown early in the UK game wasn't just Vick. The receivers weren't executing, the O line was getting blown away and the RBs were going nowhere. It's a learning process for damn near everybody, so to have Vick sit would give the impression that it was all on him.

That said, I imagine he'll be on a pretty short leash vs Terd. We need to hold Terd under 25 pts to have a real shot at a win and a big part of that is for the offense to move the ball so the defense can stay off the field.

I don't see Vick being on a short leash and I don't think there was ever any real question about who would start. Vick wasn't pulled out of the UK game because he wasn't executing well enough to stay in, JD was brought how Vick was used the last couple of years, a change up to spark the offense. I think Frank left him in for the second half because it was obvious that with the way our OL was getting pushed around and the way our WRs were struggling to get open that neither QB was going to be able to make it a ball game so why not let the backup get some reps that he wasn't able to get at Kent.

Vick's the man, he's a captain and he has the skill set to run this offense and beat Marshall.

0-3 vs. OHIO. At best he will be 1-3.
IF Marshall does win this game enjoy it. Ohio will be much stronger next year and the 6 year series will be wrapping up in Athens!

Why is the series not being extended? It makes sense for both sides. Makes no sense to end it. It's suppose to be a rivalry game shouldn't rivalries be played every year?

I think Marshall should rotate series with Miami; Toledo and Ohio U. I think most of the older Marshall fans feel Miami is more of rival than Ohio U.

Wasn't the "Battle of The Bell" promotion a Marshall idea to build attendance for the game? Didn't Marshall buy the bell?

The Battle for the Bell was created by Marshall and Ohio's marketing offices. The idea was to create a travelling trophy that represented something both schools had in common. Both Cabell county and Athens county bordered the Ohio River so we decided to go with something associated with it. We thought about a bridge but decided a River Boat Bell would make a more fitting trophy. The idea was actually birthed in a meeting between the 2 departments at Pigskins on Court Street in Athens. The bell was donated by someone from the Huntington area but I can remember his name. I am sure Jim Woodrum would remember since he is the person that located him.

It's close travel for both schools. TV is picking up interest in the game over the last few years. It's dumb not to keep it on the scheduled. A guarantee for TV would be first weekend when all the power 5 schools are playing FCS schools. TV games were really bad that first weekend.

So LSU/Wisconsin, Boise/Ole Miss, Alabama/WVU, FSU/OkSt, TexasAM/South Carolina, Clemson/UGA, Miami/Louisville, Colorado St/Colorado, OhioSt/Navy, and USC/Fresno State are bad games?

Anywhere from Week 2-Week 5 is a better time for this series. That first weekend people want to see big matchups just like there were this year. A small rivalry like this needs to be played whenever people aren't paying attention to everything else.

This time, I'll just give a hint: You need the plural of "was" here Chris. However, if you had had a conditional clause (which you didn't) then a singular subject would also take the plural verb. English can be a confusing language.

Soapbox: I'll bet that you and I are among only a dozen or so on this board that ever had to diagram sentences in high school. Now, they don't even teach grammar at the university level. My wife used to be the only one left in the English Department who would teach the grammar class and now she's retired.

While we're at it, Miss Matches might the Pageant winner at the International Arson Convention, and might look something like this:

Mismatches are something entirely different.

We had to diagram sentences in elementary school at St. Mary's. I confess, though, that I couldn't do it today.

Diagramming was one of those exercises that sharpened the ability to think - even if in later years leaky memories forgot the process.

Talk about walking into a wall on that one.
Doc needs to start one of the Lineman or anybody other than Cato against the Cats.

Penn State UCF first game of the day was good. Navy Ohio State was respectable, but the ESPN games at noon were terrible. I even remember East Carolina vs NC Central being on. Michigan vs Appalachian State, North Dakota State vs Iowa State, Tennessee Martin vs Purdue, TCU vs Samford, Thankfully Idaho at Florida was cancelled. UCLA at Virginia was a good match up, and FSU Oklahoma State, LSU Wisconsin but they were on at the same time.

I don't suspect you have any idea who you are directing your comments to or that I have a longtime connection with Marshall. I'll say this, your comments don't reflect well on the proud sons and daughters of Marshall that I know. Clean up your act!

Best post a Marshall fan has ever had on this board. He must know about the curb side pick up in the shuttle.
