Not only were they consistent, they were unflappable. A turnover? So? Go get the job done. Another? Back to work. A third one? So, start over. Four, and now the score is tied? So? There is time left, let's go. There was never panic. There was never a change to the plan.

What I was most pleased with, beyond the victory of course, is that this team seems to have great attitude and effort.

While I love winning games, going to bowls, and am still holding out faith and hope that we will one day claim a MAC championship again, I care more that we have young men playing for us that give 110% on the field, in the classroom, and in how they strive to positively represent our university.  This year's team seems to reflect all of those thus far.  

Like it or not Kent State has had our number for the past few years so while a win against them may not mean much on the national level I believe it was a major mental hurdle crossed for our players.  I do not think you could write a better script for a game that provided our team with the adversity and opportunities to create division amongst the ranks. The fact that they rallied around each other and picked one another up when they could have imploded tells me they are sold out to what Frank and the other coaches have been tirelessly building into them.  

Attitude and discipline seems to be woven around the talent that we have which I think gives us a shot in every game we will play this year.  I'm excited for the season and am hopeful that we will be a player in the MAC East race going into November for the first time in a few years.   

perimeter and GoCats both hit on things that I was pleased with. The lack of penalties was impressive, particularly given that it is week one and a lot of young guys got on the field. A lot of games this weekend, as with most week ones, were filled with laundry.

As far as Yaz, I kept noticing teams in close games going on fourth down from inside the thirty this weekend, I saw BYU's kicker miss from 33 yards in person and was watching CMU as their kicker missed from 23, 43, and an extra point. Auburn missed from 42, Navy from 36, Okie State from 42. Other than the first couple games of last season, I've been so spoiled for years with Weller and now Yaz that lining up from 44 with the game on the line barely even stressed me. 45 in seems automatic, and even out past 50 I feel good about the odds... which is really impressive.

I still value consistency, despite OHIO's slumping offense the past two weeks.
