Arkley Mentioned on his blog today that we are likely heading to play at Tennessee in 2016, but no official date known yet. That's the first I've heard anything about that game.

If that is true it sounds like we are heading toward repeating the OOC money game scheduling of the past 5 years or so. I was hoping we'd get a chance to play Big Ten schools more regularly but that does not look like it will be the case.

Ohio tends to schedule-
1. P5 $$$ game, away only
2. FCS game, home only
3. Competitive G5/low level P5 (Marshall, Kansas)
4. Bad G5 (NMSU, Idaho)

UMass fills slot #4.
That's how its been and that appears the way its going to stay. The only change is instead of making Marshall and annual series they are mixing things up with other competitive G5's and low level P5's.

The Northern SEC schools(Tennessee and Kentucky) are just as close to Athens as the more western Big Ten schools. I don't see Penn St. scheduling us again anytime soon. Although the Big Ten schools are way more beatable.

Can we please get a home and home with Hawaii? Besides enjoying another game in the dump known as Aloha Stadium, Ohio can schedule a 13th game the season they go out to the Pacific. Imagine the watch parties with midnight eastern kick off. Hawaii is maybe the worst run athletic department in the country. Talk about a program that should have gone independent instead of forcing their way into the Mountain West.

Umass should drop back down in football or drop out altogether.

New England cares not about college football.

Uconn and BC see around 25K - 30K per home game. Not that great considering the population base. And, none of my friends and family back east (some are alums of those schools) are big football fans.

Basketball, on the the other hand......
Fact check- attendance for both has been over 30,000 and seems to average closer to 35,000 over the past 5-6 years even with pretty average to bad teams overall.
Boston College 2009-2013-varies from 33,006-38,369
U Conn 2009-2013-varies from 30,932(last year) to 38,248

You're right about still not great and BB is king for U Conn and in Boston-pro sports are kings.

Won't see Pitt or Illinois anytime soon, either.

We really need to schedule a week off or at least a home game after a game at Hawaii. In '96 we won a Saturday night game there that started at midnight ET. Then had to prep for a game at Army the next week. We almost won that one, too, but I think the traveling got to the team and we lost late.

Also, Hawaii seems to be in the same boat that Tulane was a few years ago. You probably know more about this than I do, but the AD says that if they don't get about $3 million more in funding dropping football is a possibility: http://khon2.com/2014/08/18/uh-athletics-director-footbal.../

Actually, we jumped out early on Army 14-0, then the black knights proceeded to destroy us.

Really? Aloha Stadium is a dump? I was there several years ago and wouldn't necessarily label it a dump. Better than the majority of the MAC stadiums I have been to.

Someone else answered why they are not an independent if it's true if they don't get $3 million in football donations they might drop the entire program. Wonder if that 3 million will give them an acceptable loss or do they need it to break even? They need the revenue sharing the MWC gives them.

At any rate, it seemed like we lost steam during the course of the game. I'm sure that getting home late Sunday had a lot to do with it.

Actually Hawaii gives a stipend to help offset travel cost for their opponents including conference foes. As for Aloha stadium, considering the NFL has given the state plenty of money for Aloha stadium the only thing that was ever upgraded was the playing surface.

No MAC stadium would ever host the pro bowl so to compare the two is laughable. A venue that is the showcase venue for the entire state is in disrepair. Poor amenities and sun damaged chairs first come to mind. Not to mention parking is a nightmare. You were also there "several years ago" and on vacation. Trust me nothing has changed in the place and the local fan doesn't see the novelty of watching a football game in Hawaii.

UH loses money for multiple reasons. During the June Jones hey day, he wanted to go independent and had good reason. Hawaii can offer networks something others schools can't. Live sports late at night. People crave football especially at sports bars or whatever. Live events is always better then replay. Instead of making a partnership with a network, "hey help us get the opponents and you can put us on the air whenever you want." Instead they begged the MW and got a hideous deal. It is silly they don't do home and home deals with the service academies. With all the military on O'ahu you get an easy sell out. BYU was a rival of UH and there is a strong Mormon population out here. For them they squandered their opportunity after the Sugar Bowl run because they had an awful AD. Now they've made two bad HC hires in a row and are in real trouble. Now they have pay-per-view home games for the outer islands, I think they are the only program in the country that does it. What casual fan in their right mind would pay to see UH vs. N. Iowa? Not many trust me.

Hawaii has a very deep talent pool considering the size of the state. That's why more PAC 12 schools are coming here to play. It helps with recruiting which is a double edge sword. You bring big boys in and you lose home grown talent. However if you bring enough big boys by playing a national schedule the top level kids might want to stay home because they have plenty of opportunity to showcase their talent.

That is a good idea to schedule games with Army and Navy. What about the Washington and Oregon State games this year? Those were good games. Yes it was when I was on vacation. The stadium was open and we went in and looked around. It was set up for baseball. It's cool how they can move the grandstands.

You would think Hawaii would be sitting on a gold mine. If you were a high school senior why would you not want to go live in Hawaii for 4 to 5 years?

I think the NFL should play the Super Bowl in Hawaii every year. What a reward that would be for the players and fans. The pro bowl should probably rotate around the country.

They have not played baseball in Aloha Stadium in almost 20 years. The OSU and UW games were both on basic cable. There home date with Northern Iowa was pay per view.

No way the NFL would have the Super Bowl in a 35 year old 50,000 seat stadium.

I know this might sound ridiculous but the Manoa campus isn't very picturesque. Adjusting to life out here especially for an 18 year old isn't all that easy. Island fever is a very real thing. 5 hour flights to just get to LA would get old very fast. Also the facilities at the University are out dated, it has been documented UH doesn't even supply shampoo in the locker rooms. The price of playing in paradise.. of course in hindsight wouldn't any 18 year old want to be minutes from Waikiki beach regardless of the conditions.
