Last Week I was 5-1 (Buffalo lost 41-48)

So lets see what we're working with this week...

Buffalo (4-3, 2-1) at OHIO (4-3, 2-1) - I had a Buffalo win, BUT Gimme OHIO... OU is 14-2 at The Frank. Even though I'm down on them currently, if we can win this one, I think we can go into EMU at 6-3... having the potential going to Toledo at 7-3 would be tremendous.

CMU (3-4, 1-2) at MOFO (3-4, 2-1) - Miami - Unfortunately, they figured out they shouldn't suck
EMU (5-2, 2-1) at Akron (1-6, 0-3) - EMU
BG (3-4,2-1) at Toledo (5-2, 2-1) - Toledo
NIU (4-3,1-2) at BSU (2-5, 1-2) - NIU
Kent (0-7, 0-3) at WMU (4-3, 3-0) - WMU

Interesting stat for the Kent=WMU game:

Kent has the third-best passing offense in MAC games despite completing only 39 of 93 passes and having five INTs, most in the MAC. They've gained 872 yds in three games, a 272 yd average. And they go against the worst passing defense so far in MAC play. WMU has given up 1,052 yds in three games, an average of over 350 uds per game.

Of course, rushing is a different story. WMU in third in rushing offense and defense, while Kent is tenth in rushing offense and 11th in rushing defense. Still, Kent could keep it close with its passing attack.

Kennesaw State pulled a big upset vs Liberty last night, so Kent is now the last winless team left in D1A.

Upcoming opponents are struggling this week.

Kent State getting absolutely spanked against WMU. WMU is so far undefeated in the MAC but narrowly beat Ball State 45-42, Akron 34-24, Buffalo 48-41 so this one might be a case of Kent being really bad rather than WMU being that good. WMU still has to play NIU, BG and at CMU so we'll see what they are made of.

Eastern Michigan is down 18 to Akron a the half. They are 2-1 the MAC but those two wins are a victory over Kent State and CMU 38-34. They play Toledo next week but that looks like a loss for them at this point.

Toledo looking vulnerable this week down to BG at half. They also have lost to Buffalo who the Cats have now beaten. If Ohio can get the wins against Kent ane EMU that sets up for a big game against Toledo. Ohio's been able to do it before against Toledo in recent years midweek.

Ball State is playing NIU well this week up at the half by 5. They probably don't pull out the win here and so far their only MAC win is 37-35 over Kent State. Still appears to be quite winnable particularly when they are visiting Athens.

If Miami wins out (Ball St, Kent St, NIU, BG) and Ohio wins out could set up for a rematch in the MAC Championship. WMU is undfeated but I don't know about them with their schedule (NIU, BG, CMU, EMU). Perhaps Miami slips up with a second loss and Ohio could play WMU for a MAC if they end up with only 1 loss.

Surpringly after what happened against Miami we are in this race, particularly when Ohio has an extended break before midweek to heal up prior to Kent State.

BG plays Miami and WMU both at home. If they win out and so does Ohio that sets up a Ohio vs. BG MAC.

Regardless the Cats are trending toward an 8 win season (should be favored against Kent, EMU and Ball St) at this point IMO.

With BG taking out Toledo, and Akron winning over EMU, there are only 4 teams left now with less than 2 losses, Ohio being one of them. To stay in contention, Ohio needs to go 4-0 down the stretch, so for purposes of discussion, let's assume they do. In two weeks, BG and Miami will play, and the loser will be eliminated. That leaves only WMU and the winner of the Miami-BG game who could end up in the MACC ahead of a 7-1 Ohio. Ohio loses a tiebreaker with Miami, so I hope BG beats them. I have no idea who would win a tiebreaker with either BG or WMU, since Ohio doesn't play either.

Edit - Yes, it's probably possible, that in some special circumstances, a 6-2 Ohio team could end up in the MACC. Let's hope that Ohio doesn't lose another game, and we don't have to worry about it.

Ball State is looking like a trap game for Miami and OU. Let's hope the Redhawks get caught in that trap.

Buffalo’s wins versus NIU and Toledo not looking so good right now, but it’s the MAC, almost every game is guesswork.

Truer words have never been spoken! I watched the Bowling Green and Toledo game. It was a hard fought game on both sides of the ball; however, Toledo's quarterback, Tucker Gleason, appeared to make some baffling poor decisions at times in addition to turning it over at the worst of times. Being a fan of the Ohio Bobcats, inconsistency at QB is not unfamiliar to me.

Kent could also be a trap game for us, given that it comes before the EMU game. We can't take the Flashes lightly. We lost to them up there two years ago and have won only four of the last seven trips to Kent, all by a TD or less.

This!

At this point in the season, Ohio has to focus on winning one game at a time, because any stumble ends the season. in the MAC, any team can beat any other, so the threat of losing the Kent is real. As you point out, history shows the risk.

Agreed. This 2024 team is capable of beating or losing to anyone in the MAC.

I believe it is combined record of the opponents. I'm not doing that math lol, but I will guess BG since WMU is running the charminist of schedules avoiding OU, Miami, and Toledo. How on earth did that even happen?

What an absolute bonehead call by EMU to go for the win rather than go to OT.

I know the coach probably wanted to take the risk to get to 6 wins with home field advantage but those PAT decisions really hurt them.

Statistics and the call, Go for the win at home, play for the OT on the road. Funny, Frank goes for two at Marshall on the road and it’s genius when it works. 😳😎🤦🏽‍♂️

Any call is a great one when it works, and a horrible one when it doesn't. I remember when Solich went for two against NTSU in 2009.
