I do not recall ever having heard this until a game we won at Miami last decade (2010, 2014?). We were winning and it seemed to originate out of nowhere but it must have been coordinated somewhat. I know it was sure fun to participate in it. If it did originate there it’s cool that it did on our rival’s field during a Bobcats victory. Maybe someone on the board knows the story behind it.

I agree. The first time I heard it was during a broadcast from Yager Stadium. I believe it was the 2016 game, a 17-7 victory. It was a Saturday game with a decent crowd of Ohio fans.

I was at that game in Oxford. It seemed to just start organically, but someone must have come up with the idea and then the rest of the crowd just kind of went along. I'd love to have the original brains behind the cheer stand up and take credit.

I have a shirt I got on campus that says OU on the front and OH YEAH on the back, circa 2004.

Interesting. Perhaps someone at the aforementioned Miami game had one of those t-shirts and that gave them the idea for the cheer. I'm fairly certain that that Miami game was the first time the phrase was used as a cheer.

Perhaps. I thought we used it during my time at OU. I guess I don't remember specific chants lol but I feel like we did. I have a fuzzy memory of the Pitt game chanting it in the tunnels.

It was on a tee shirt first. We used to do OU clap clap, OU clap clap in the O Zone at basketball. People slowly started to fill in the claps with Oh Yeah. I can say first hand that the back and forth between grandstands happened in Oxford on a Black Friday game in 2006. Video might be buried somewhere on Youtube.

Agreed Shabamon, I took my family to that game in Oxford. It was a beautiful Fall afternoon game with a rather nice crowd including a large Ohio turnout. We had won six straight including a win at Illinois. We won 34-24 utilizing Kalvin McRae and Chris Garrett. Matt Muncy and Jamerson Harke had great days on defense. Scott Mayle had a nice return. After the game my oldest had his Ohio #50 jersey autographed by Matt Muncy. It made my oldest kid's day. There was a large section of Ohio fans on the visitor's side of the stadium as well as the group I was sitting in on the home side. One side of the stadium would chant OU and then the other side would chant Oh Yea. What a fun and memorable afternoon. BTW, Rufus the Bobcat came to where my family was seated in the stands and we took a family photo with Rufus. We still have the photo and my son still has Matt's signed jeresy. Great memories.

Looks like ou79 might challenge shabamon for best photographic memory of Bobcat sporting events. Very impressive on both accounts.

I'll defer to our resident historians ou79 and OCF. What they say fits what I was told several years ago. Unlike them, I wasn't actually there.

I started attending OU in 2012, but previous to that my family had season tickets to Football since I was in late elementary school, I almost never missed a home game and we would go to a basketball game or two every year as well. I want to say I remember hearing OU Oh Yeah before 2012.

I definitely remember it being on T-shirts my Senior year in Fall '05 through Spring '06. The chant was probably one of those things that just organically started after seeing those all over campus.

I played in this game and remember it dearly. "The guys" still talk about it to this day. We were chanting it as players.

Here it is:

A new chant arose during the second half in Oxford last week:

"OU!...Oh Sh&t!"
