I think that is true because teams all seem to be pretty inconsistent . Good week then a bad week. We won’t known much more this week except to see how Miami is able to turn it around.

Tier 1: Toledo

Tier 2: No one

Tier 3: OU, EMU, Buffalo, NIU, CMU, BG

Tier 4: Miami, Kent State, Akron, Ball State, WMU

I still think Miami figures it out, but they look awful. Also not ready to call EMU one of the good teams quite yet. NIU blew their load on Notre Dame. They are who we thought they were. CMU has a Swiss cheese defense. Buffalo has given up more points than they’ve scored this season. And OU makes even playing Akron look difficult.

Outside of Toledo, it’s a battle of MID. And shockingly, I think we’re near the 2nd tier. A lot to figure out, but I think we can make a little run.

*edit* How could I have possibly forgot BG after their mighty performance against ODU?

Tier 1: Nobody
Tier 2: Toledo
Tier 3: Nobody
Tier 4: NIU
Tier 5: Ohio, Buffalo, EMU, Bowling Green
Tier 6: Western Michigan, Miami, CMU
Tier 7: Nobody
Tier 8: Akron, Ball State
Tier 9: Kent State

I give Miami a good shot to turn it around too but I can't rank them higher based on the season so far. Beating Notre Dame still counts for a lot. Already having a win over NIU in the conference schedule counts for something. Maybe EMU should be ahead of the rest of their tier based on the season so far but in the opposite situation as Miami, I think I trust Bowling Green, Miami, probably Ohio, and maybe WMU more over time.

Swap CMU and BG.

Tier 3: Buffalo, EMU, Ohio, WMU
Tier 4: CMU, Ball State
Tier 5: Akron
Tier 6: (U Mass*)
Tier 7: Kent

I'll make more small changes, at least until we get into the meat of the conference schedule. I'll move Miami down, move UMass up a notch, and Ball State down one:
Tier 1: none
Tier 2: Toledo, BG, NIU
Tier 3: Buffalo, Miami, Ohio, WMU, EMU
Tier 4: CMU
Tier 5: Akron, Ball State, (U Mass*)
Tier 6: none
Tier 7: Kent

* Not officially in the MAC yet

Most accurate yet, IMHO. BG belongs in Tier 2, despite an inexplicable loss ODU last Saturday, they played PSU and TAMU tough.

The BG loss was because it was a trap game between A&M and Akron 😁

Miami and Toledo this early is interesting. Miami has just a week to get it together.

Seems like a very important game to help determine championship game participants. More importantly, can Miami become the team everyone expected them to be? They’re too talented (IMHO) to keep playing like they have been.

I've learned that, as much as we hate them, you can never count MOFO out this early in the season. A few years ago they started 0-6, 0-2 then won their last six regular season games to tie us for first in the East. I think they're the only 1A/FBS team to ever have such a dramatic mid-season turn-around.

UMass is as bad as advertised. Opening possession vs NIU: sack, lost fumble. Then they gave up a 16-yd TD run on NIU's first play.

Ooops. NIU just gave up a 63-yd TD to a wide open receiver. It's 7-7 barely three minutes into the game.

Akron giving BG a game. Toledo looks like the most athletically talented team in the league. QB Gleason is OK.

BG got out of there by the skin of their ass. (Hell of a winning scoringdrive for them though)

I rarely relish in the misfortune of others, but Miami starting out 1-4 makes my cold heart a little warmer.

Grabbert is having a very bad year for him for Miami- but he is still a dangerous threat. I think they are capable of beating anyone else left in their schedule with their defense.

Yep. He's too good to be this bad. Only a matter of time he wakes up - hopefully not next week.
