The MAC on the whole wet the bed with NIU losing to Buffalo, Toledo losing, Miami getting beat, and Ohio getting blown out. There is an opportunity there if the 'Cats get a few people back on defense and average QB play.
I don't disagree with that anything you've said here. MAC is BAD. But our playcalling hasn't been inspiring - especially when QB's are struggling. I haven't seen anything from Poulus that made me think he's anything more than just better than QB3 and QB4.

I think Parker is probably best to run the offense. He's been here. He had an embarrassing half of football, but you have to have a short memory. If he doesn't then maybe it is time to turn the page on him, but I dont know if Poulus is the answer. Unfortunately, we have no news on Winters - who every coach praised constantly - and now finds himself riding the pine pony when we need someone to manage the run game. So I'm even more scared about what our picture is for this season and beyond.
Good points.

It is kinda amazing how much they like Poulos as he has only been here a few months and, like you said, i have heard them praise Winters.

If we were gonna go with Poulos, I wish we would have started conference with Akron, Kent State, and Ball State. Poulos might be solid in the end but who can say? Although the coaches like to say the "whole playbook is open" Poulos got to throw four passes the whole second half versus morgan state. Even good ones like Kurtis Rourke took some games to get acclimated and my worry about Poulos is he finds his groove after the chance at the conference title is lost for 2024.

In the modern day transfer portal era I don’t think you can count on the QB position from year to year anyway, high performers can always leave or disgruntled players can make a lateral move or move down.

On the positive side, we could end up with a solid QB from another G5, a backup from a P4, or an FCS stud under center next year.

Last year, we needed three second-have TDs to beat these guys. And that was with Rourke et al, many of whom played their last game for Ohio. This year both teams have almost a complete overhaul of personnel and neither team had a stellar OOC season. This one is hard to figure out. Bullock is their better QB but he's played sparingly since the O$U game. Finley is their regular QB; he has a so-so completion percentage (55%), averages 190 ypg and has six TDs with four INTS. Simmons is their leading RB; he gets 5.8 yds per carry but averages only 43 yds per game. He had 198 vs Rutgers but only 49 vs Colgate. Except for one performance vs Colgate they haven't had anything spectacular from their receivers (now watch, one of them will have a career day on Saturday). Akron seems like a team we can handle defensively but the secondary will really need to step up. I'd like to see our guys score on the first four or five possessions and put this one away early.

It kind of looks like sporadic sprinkles all day tomorrow and maybe some light rain around the end of the game and after. I hope it isn't worse than that.

Bullock is the better running QB, but definitely isn’t the better QB.

Norton is 6th in receiving yards in the MAC. If he happens to go off, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise.

Akron returns almost the whole front 7 on defense. Secondary has several new faces.

Should be a good game.

Bullock makes bad decisions. Finley has tender ribs. I think we'll see lots of 5- and 10-yard throws to the sidelines. I will be very disappointed if this game is close.

High school football games being rescheduled to today will most certainly impact attendance. Some have their games scheduled at or around 9:00 AM but many are not, including Athens, which is apparently scheduled for 1:00 PM. At least on the surface, as a casual observer, I’m thinking at least that one would have been handled better.

Certainly looks like a trap game to me with a bye week coming up next week with CMU and Miami looming on the horizon.

Seems like the opposite of a trap game to me. We don't have a big opponent coming up and we got our asses handed to us last week. Take off that bucket hat and think it through some more.

Yeah, between a blowout and a bye, is the literal opposite. Beating Toledo and then playing Kent State the week before Miami is the typical idea of a trap.

The line is down to 8.5. Somebody out there might have information about Navarro's health.

Some mid-game observations.
- The Oline looks so much smaller with Dennison out. But it also seems a little bit more effective in run blocking?
- Parker Navarro is a really slippery runner. Some more designed QB runs might open up the run game a bit.
- Solid special teams play. Especially from Coleman Owen (who is just great in general).
- DBs look better than from the non-conference slate. Tank Pearson had some good plays.
