Overall those seem like solid numbers from the MAC attendance leaders, which is good to see. Our average still exceeds our capacity, so that's always a plus (considering we'll be lucky to finish .500).
Uhhhh...I meant our home game vs. Akron next week. Not their game up in 'Kron this weekend. Don't really know/care too much about what they're doing.

These figures bear witness as to how delusional are the aspirations of.this conference to be "big time."

Northern Illinois is a perennial power. They were in the Orange Bowl a couple of yeas ago. But look where they rank in the.conference in attendance.

Central Michigan has been a solid, winning program for years now. Yet they drew less than 19,000 paid on a good weather day for its homecoming game vs. Ohio. And abt half their fans were more interested in tailgating than attending the.game...stadium was never more than.half full.
yeah, we could never be big time like these guys-

2013 Attendance:

35,675 Vanderbilt
33,006 Boston College
29,738 Washington St
28,414 Wake Forrest
26,062 Duke

Football has always been the reason we could not join the bigger conference.
You also have to be invited, and these days that's as much a function of the TV market as it is the stadium size. ECU has a 50,000-seat stadium (third largest in NC) and a program that traditionally has been a winner and a giant killer. But when the reshuffling of big conference alignments came about, no one came calling, largely because ECU is in the 103rd TV market and schools in larger markets were available. Sure, they moved from CUSA to the American Conference, but it's mostly populated with old CUSA schools, so they're basically where they were. Yes, expand Peden if the economics are there. But don't expect the expansion to lead to a bigger conference, even with a winning program.

OUr TV market is there. We are Ohio. This state is a great TV market. We do not have to compete with OSU. We only need to snag a couple %. Random people around Ohio don't want to root for random MAC teams. That is obvious... However, the #2 spot is there for the taking in this state... Expanding Peden is not about pulling 35k. It is about making the commitment (a big one) to take the leap up.

The American does not get a ton of respect, but I like it. Sign me up to play with UConn, Memphis and UC any day... That may be the hoops fan in me..
Can you imagine the attendance in the Convo if we had those 3 schools I mentioned were coming into Athens? We would sell out. And not just "paper" sell out. Actual fans in the seats sell out.

Conferences aren't looking for seats. They are looking for broadcast caliber lighting, 10,000 sq.ft weight rooms, Indoor Practice Facilities, Academic Center's and Basketball Practice Facilities. Corporate sponsorships, Club giving, salary committments also play a part. Doesn't that sound like what Ohio's done over the last 15 years or in the process of doing? Peden's football capacity is small for a power conference but we make up for it with a 13,000 seat basketball arena. If the ACC lost FSU and Clemson, Ohio would not be too far out of line with most of the programs in that conference. Be patient and continue to build facilities for now. Rack up NCAA berths with Saul and our stock will soar. If a power conference is going to want us its going to be to get into the State of Ohio and our basketball. Football just has to be adequate on the facilities and we're getting very close to that.
