Well folks, we are witnessing the disintegration of the Solich regime. No quarterback, no weapons at WR/RB and a terribly inexperienced/ineffective offensive front.

The way I see it, we have at least two seasons before we can be competitive with anyone besides the dregs of college football.

I've been hinting at it for a while, but it seems obvious to me that this staff has run its course. A decade coaching a MAC team is plenty. We need a fresh start. Thoughts?

Frank turned 70 on Sept. 8. It is difficult to imagine him being the head football coach for more that a couple or 3 of more years.

Interesting dilemma for Schaus: The above being a given, how much more rope do you wanna give Frank?

I thought the same thing a few years back when we missed a bowl game and they rallied nicely. So, I'm not sure it's time yet. I didn't get to watch today, had to rely on Russ.
If this the end I think they should go young, energetic and high octane offense. Maybe an offisenive coordinator. Try and out score people. Atleast losing 40-something to 30- something is entertaining.

I don't think I will go as far as you PG to say the players aren't there. I feel like the players are there, but the system isn't. This program needs some new blood. As stable as it has been, the stability is outweighed by the inability to fix problems immediately.

The offense stinks. Flat out stinks. And it has for the better part of eight games. You could argue that it hasn't done much since the bowl win over ULM against meaningful competition. Including the Buffalo loss last year, the offense has scored 121 points in eight games. That's an average of a little over 15 points a game. That's not getting it done no matter how you slice it.

Why? Why is this still a problem and why is it not being fixed? I understand there have been injuries. I understand there has been depth issues. I understand that we have new faces everywhere on offense. But it's not about that anymore. There is absolutely no "pop" in this offense and hasn't been for a while.

And that leads to more questions. If there are so many injuries, where are the backups? Where is the depth? This is Frank's 10th year. If the program were as stable as we all think it is, depth shouldn't be an issue. It should be there by now. It's so frustrating to watch.

Here's another thing: if Ohio is supposed to be one of the most stable MAC programs over the last 5-10 years, arguably the most stable in the East, how in the world has it gotten this bad so fast? BG, NIU and Toledo all lost their dynamite QBs either to graduation or injury this year (Toledo lost two as a matter of fact) and they are still OK. Toledo played well against Mizzou and Cincinnati. BG just beat Indiana. NIU beat Northwestern. Their offenses never miss a beat no matter who the coach, QB or other players are. Why is that such a problem at Ohio?

I'm ok with the defense. Burrow always figures something out to make the defense competitive. There's only so much they can do when they are on the field for 60-75% of the game. Who knew, maybe if the offense played better, the defense might too!

Look, I get it that Frank is old school and about loyalty and sticking to your guns, but sometimes a coach has to make tough decisions. If he doesn't fix them someone else can. Frank has done amazing things for Ohio. Basically, he put Ohio on the map. I'm extremely grateful for that. We all should be. But it's so blindly obvious that some change is needed that it's apathetic to continue otherwise.

Is Frank the problem? I don't know. All I know is Ohio needs a spark. It hasn't seen one since 2012 when they were ranked. To be honest, it hasn't been seen since that exact date of the team being ranked. It's funny how things like that happen.

PG is correct. I have said it before and I will say it again I think FS&Co have taken us about as far as they can. It starts with players and ends with schemes. I stand by my coments there are not enoungh (any?) playmankers on this team. I'm not sure what the schemes say about us. The last 20 or so games has shown us that a lot of teams have passed this staff/these players in effectiveness.

I congratulate this staff on their accomplishments and getting us completely out of the outhouse. But, now, we are heading back in that direction pretty fast. I just can't see this group leading us to any more heights. Given their ages and everything, we must start thinking of changes sooner rather than later. This was a very knorr-esque performance and that's not good. Sorry guys, I am no longer impressed.

Why can't I? Is that team today THAT much different than any of the last three years teams where Ohio went 3-0? You can say that with a straight face? Ohio has scored 121 points in 8 games dating back to last year. That's not players. That's coaching.

Since being ranked #23 in 2012 before the Miami game, Ohio has now gone 10-12. Of those 10 wins, only three were against teams with winning records.

Oh and 10 of the 12 losses were by 10 points or more. Lots of blowouts.

You were last year as well but 5 turnovers will equalize that talent. Today was a clean game for the most part.

I did a quick contract check and found that Solich is under contract through the 2016 season. Beyond this year the school has obligated for 2015 and 2016. I know the last 2 games have been disappointing for everyone but Solich is bringing enough intangibles to the table that its worth swallowing a 4-8 season once in a while. Recruiting is finally where it should be with most of the class locked up before the season begins with a high level of instate representation. He was able to get the IPF built and the Tower renovated and now he's got a project to spruce up the weight room. That academic center sounds like its 2 or 3 years away from breaking ground. While its unlikely Frank can win a MAC Championship at Ohio, the chances of getting back to another bowl game are about 90% for the remainder of his contract. By then maybe Dave Clawson will be available after he crashes at Wake. That would be the next dream hire for Ohio, getting a coach in here that has won a MAC Championship particularly at a MAC East school. Another coach I would look at is Turner Gill at Liberty. The facilities we have now are solid for the MAC but with that academic center we should be at the top of the MAC and competitive with AAC or ACC schools on the recruiting trail. When Solich started at Ohio all of the other instate MAC schools were beating us badly on the recruiting trail and there was a big question as to what this program could even do. NIU now has the blueprint for a MAC program on the national scene and it really helps to have a program like that in the conference. Ohio can be the NIU of the East with the right staff. Games against schools like Kentucky and Marshall have got to be wins if we want to be taken seriously. They may go on to win 8-10 games but those are the types of schools you've got to get past to be taken seriously by the fans.

We have more players in the NFL so I can't buy your talent arguement. Holiday at this point is in the zone with his program and we likely were beat by the future CUSA champions. If he has a big year at Marshall he's out the door and then Marshall will be rebuilding while the other programs in CUSA are on the rise. The long term prognostication for the Marshall program isn't very good.

Oh, boo hoo its over, boo hoo. What?? We've known since last year that this would be a down year for us and up year for them. I have to laugh at this dude. Perimeter post has made so many derogatory comments on Marshall threads on the CUSA board it's pathetic. You had a personal vendetta, and it blew up in your face. I will address your visiting of CUSA board Marshall threads--glass houses and stones and all that...lol.

Been a "lurker" and haven't posted before. Here is my take. We will not get a head coach with a better pedigree than Frank. He has done a great deal for the program over a long period of time and that can't be ignored. I recall that Big Daddy was 0-10 in 1965 and won the conference and was nationally ranked in 1969. In other programs, he would have been canned after the 0-10 season., From someone that was there....don't turn your back on quality. A ten year record of quality results and everyone is ready to can the head coach because he is 1-2 . With how many games left? I appreciate everyone's ardor. But the big picture is what counts. Not nitpicking individual positional performances. Personally, I am far more interested in the big picture. And that does not include getting overly exercised over three games. You speak of loyalty, and so do I. I simply put it in a higher place than you. The most profound statement I have heard...."Excellence over a long period of time is the only true test"...Big Daddy, circa 1969. Settle down and appreciate what we have. It's not all that terrible.
