Ok, well win total is only a small portion of what really matters. If we beat Idaho, Kent, Miami and EIU then we don't really know anything about this team or the future. Well, I guess we would have learned that we aren't one of the bottom 10-15 teams in the country. So that would be good news.
If we get to five wins that would mean we have a pulse. Its a bad season (yes, Bcat2 by both historical Ohio standards and Solich standards), but the sky isn't falling. However, I'd still be concerned about the program's future under Solich.
If we got to 6 wins, then I would reduce my complaining from "total collapse" back to "plateaued." I think my tone and mood regarding the program would improve quite a bit.
Seven or greater and I would recant everything and I would mail an apology letter to Bcat2.
What's missing from your question is the issue of "style points." The 2008 rebuilding Bobcats won only 4 games...but they played Ohio State, Northwestern and CMU tight and lost to Wyoming by a point on the road in the opener. For the most part, they were competitive and fun to watch. You also got the feeling watching them that they were a year or two away from a much better season.
This years team has none of that.
Hope that answers your questions!
Paul thank you for putting that response together. I appreciate the direct answer to what I feel was a reasonable question. (Most of the contempt I hold towards Monroe can be attributed to his inability to even remotely answer what I feel are clearly defined questions)
I was looking for clarification on potential outcomes that would render your current opinion as "strong" or "weak" in the future (in my mind). I think the criteria you've established are fair. We'll see how this season plays out.
But I will add that I have no interest in "what really matters" or "style points" (unless you have objective criteria in mind to support strong and weak conclusions on those outcomes as the season evolves).
P.S.
The hostility you're picking up on L.C. does serve a purpose for me. The hostility signifies a lack of respect (not towards you).
