I said it before to have any chance at a bowl we needed at least one good win against a team with a winning record. We had two of them last year against Marshall and UNT. The victory today is the first good win on the season, puts the Cats at 4-4. There is a legit chance now at 6 or 7 wins to pick up that bowl bid.

Also the Cats are only 1 game out of the East with BGSU losing today against WMU. If Akron can beat BG and Akron drops another game along the way its a 3 way tie for first place.

Ah, hell, I know that you'll all kill me for this...but, are you delusional?

Did you see that game? Akron stinks. Their qb should have had 5-6 more balls picked off. They have no offense.

I suppose by some miracle (miracle) we could get to 6-7 wins. (Apparently very dependent upon Vick returning.) Are we attractive to a bowl?

Getting to 6 isn't a miracle. UB and Miami are terrible. Getting to 7 will take a bit of luck. If we only get to 6 then no we don't look to attractive. But if we can get to 7, with the extra bowls this year, we're a shoe in.

It'll take at least 7 wins. Things look brighter than they did last week, but next week we're at WMU, who won at BG today. We'll have to play a lot better next week -- especially regarding penalties -- to win up there.

Yes, I saw the game, and no, Akron does not stink. I'm not sure they will lose another game, however. They will be favored in every remaining game.

By the way, the Bobcat offense put more points on Akron than anyone but Marshall. I'm not sure they will give up 20 again this year - they have a very good defense.

Don't forget to mention that OHIO held Akron's offense to their 3rd lowest point total of the season. (behind Penn State and Marshall)

I'm very grateful for the Akron win today. It takes a lot of heart to win games you should not win. Usually teams well over 100 yards of penalties do not win games. We also beat Kent State after losing four fumbles in the second half. That is not normal. That is not the law of the universe. The football Gods have smiled on us twice this year. With that said, we would have lost both of those games with a team that quit when things were not going their way. We have seen seasons where the players have given up. This team has not. The rest of the season we must reduce penalties and turnovers. Hopefully the end of the Akron game will be a start. Hat's off to Sprague for his composure, and lets hope some guys get healthy so we have a great run to end the season. Go Bobcats!

Say what you will, but this was the same Akron team that won 8 of its last 12 and recently beat Pitt, who has just beaten Va. Tech. So this is no minor victory on Ohio's part. And I don't care if Akron was playing with their backup QB; so was Ohio. Props to Ohio on a big win today!

I was impressed with Sprague's speed. He gets the game ball as far as I'm concerned. As for Akron, when they threw the ball over the middle they killed us. When they threw to the outside they were horrible. Four of those balls could have very easily gone for touchdowns. In this league, anyone can win on any given Saturday afternoon. Seriously.

There are 5 MAC bowl berths. BG is at 5-3 has the best record. Akron, Ohio, Toledo, CMU, WMU and NIU all are at 4 wins. You have 7 schools competing for 5 MAC bowl bids. CMU and WMU both have EMU/Miami on the schedule so they'll most likely hit 6 wins. NIU is killing Miami and has EMU on the schedule. Toledo has EMU/UMass. BG has Kent State at home. Akron has UMass/Kent St. If all goes as planned we'll have 7 teams with 6+ wins so for a MAC bowl its going to require at least getting to 7 wins. Right now there are 4 surplus +.500 teams from the MAC & SBC and CUSA is coming up 1 bowl eligible short. There are also 7 surplus power conference +.500 teams and Big XII 1 bowl eligible short. The power conferences will be filing 5 at large spots out of that surplus in the Fiesta, Cotton and Peach. That still leaves one surplus power conference team to fill a minor bowl opening. Numbers aren't in our favor this year. We will have to get to 8-4 to be a lock for a MAC tie-in at this point.

Akron threw those passes to the outside because that's one of the weak spots in this defense. In Cover-2, those are covered by the CB, and it is easy, so you never see them. Against Cover-4 the OLB must cover those, which is very hard, and he has to be very mobile to get over and cover those. All the near picks show that Ohio's LB's have the speed to do it, and I think we'll see less of them the rest of the year.

The CB's in general had good coverage today as well. Bass and Wells each had an interference call against them, and I think they each gave up one pass, but mostly they were solid. That left Akron throwing to the slot man against the safeties, which worked reasonably well for them...until it didn't.

The numbers of bowl openings as of this minute do not point to a MAC school picking up an at-large bowl so I'm not sure if even 7 will do it this year with 7 MAC schools on pace for 7 wins. If it was a top heavy year in the MAC we could slide under the radar at 7-5 with few teams having winning records.

That is the case in any league if the stars align they can pull out a win.

Was taking just a quick look. We are playing for every win at this point and taking out WMU will push the Cats to 5 on the season. Continue to show improvement each week and there is a chance to win the Bobcat Blackout when NIU rolls into town.

Akron's inexperienced second string qb threw late all day to the outside plus his receivers cut nothing off quickly. At 59, I could have picked off a few of those ducks.

If we want to go to a bowl, we're to have to get over our case of the Dropsies. I'm glad we won today and it's a big win in the context of trying to save this season, but we got lucky. Big drops by Mangen and S. Smith really cost us on 3rd down late.

I think getting to a bowl depends on beating WMU next week. As bad as WMU was last year looking at the resumes of the teams so far winning at WMU looks unlikely to me. There will be about 80 eligible teams which means most 6-6 mid-majors won't go.

Good win but lets not get carried away Akron's back up QB was terrible telegraphed every one of his throws and our defense should have had about 3 pick 6s. Our offense still looked extremely pedestrian and had Jovon not picked up a gift from Akron's receiver this game may have turned out way different with us calling for heads. I really hope this win can do something for the team's morale and bolster some confidence for the remainder of the season but that performance didn't convince me that we are a bowl team yet Vick supposedly will be back in the line-up next week a win then may give me some more belief.

He's allowed to practice Monday, but when will be be ready to play? I don't know. He certainly adds a deep threat to the offense, so I hope soon, but I don't want him to come back too soon and re-injure the knee.
