My nephew Troy scores his first of hopefully many touchdowns for the Bobcats this weekend. Why can't the announcers (ours or ESPN) pronounce his name correctly?

espn.go.com/video/clip

It's pronounced MANJEN!

All teams should give a phonetic roster to announcers.

Lets make it happen.

Go Bobcats!

There is one at page 12 of the Game Notes, actually, but it includes only about a dozen players. I'd say that they need to increase that to 13.

I suspect that 'nouncers will have plenty of more opps to pronounce the young man's name over coming years.

I like what I saw from #82 last Saturday.

Troy's father Mike led the Bobcats in tackles in 1983 earning ALL-MAC Honorable Mention. Troy's Uncle Doug led the Bobcat's in tackles in 1986 and 1987.

You have to love Bobcat Tradition. Congrats to Troy! Hopefully it is one of many TD's.

That was a sweet play - laughed out loud (literally) when I saw him shed his block and slip  into the end zone...

Well, I hear you, but I am all for hearing his name mispronounced after many, many, many TDs.

(I have a name nobody pronounces or spells correctly at first.)

I'm a member of that mispronounced name club too.

I'm a member of that club too.  Hope they get his name correct as we move forward.

Very few people pronounce my last name correctly the first time, and it's even worse for my middle name.  We seem to have a growing club here of folks with frequently abused names.

On the contrary, "Oiltender-Swabbie-squid" is quite easy to both remember and pronounce, CD.

(Try pronouncing five Serbo-Croat names that only have one vowel total in the first three sometime.)

He's still not on this week's pronunciation guide, on page 12 of the Game Notes.

Repeat this name three times:

Kah-lee-on Aloe-ss-eh

Kah-lee-on Aloe-ss-eh

Kah-lee-on Aloe-ss-eh

Very nice article on Troy Mangen.
http://tinyurl.com/l4dmvo7

It's now one year later, and EPSN has still not learned to pronounce his name correctly. Week after week go by, and they keep getting it wrong. One week the ESPN3 color man actually was pronouncing it correctly while the announcer kept getting it wrong. Finally the color man gave up.

Oh, and it's still not in the pronunciation guide in the game notes.

Troy is a stud. Will lead Ohio to at least 1 MACC. I am thinking he will be a guy that plays on Sunday. Never backs down!
