I knew Vick's passing stats this year are dramatically better than Sprague's, but I was curious how they stack up with other recent Ohio QB's, so I went to the record book to take a look:
1. Completion Pct, game - Vick is now tied for #9 with Sammy Shon and Boo Jackson by completing 75% against Kent State.
2. Completion Pct, Season - at 60.4% so far, that puts him at #8
3. Completion Pct, Career - at 57.3% so far, that puts him at #4, trailing TT, Boo, and T3.
4. Yards/game - his partial games keep him out of this stat
5. Yards/attempt, season - at 8.08 currently, he would be 2d, behind only Bob Babbit from 1962
6. Yards/attempt, career - at 7.6 he stands at #3, behind TT and Boo
7. yards/completion, career - at 13.3 he is at #7 behind Kareem Wilson 95-98, Bill Fredrick 51-54, Rich Bevly 72-74, Cleve Bryant 67-69, Steve Skiver 68-70, and Dontrell Jackson 98-02.
8. QB Efficiency, Season - his 141.3 ranks #2 behind TT's 2011 season
9. QB Efficiency, Career - at 135.9 he is currently #3 behind TT and Boo.
All in all, I was kind of surprised. I would say those are some pretty good numbers considering the issues this team has had. Clearly he excels at throwing the deep ball. Normally you use the run to open up the pass, but it seems possible that his ability to throw the deep ball might open things up a little for the run.
Let's hope he can overcome his injury had have three great games down the stretch, and lead Ohio to a strong finish.
Then build upon it through a healthy 2015.
