I am sure every athlete that ever put on a uniform for the Bobcats appreciates this comment.
+1 CC, already spoken with a few alumni players who are not happy about this guys comments.

"If this is what it takes to settle on ONE QB,....so be it". In other words, sucks for him, but I'm happy we are down to one. Your words speak for themselves.
He never said he was happy. I read the "So be it" in a dark and ominous tone.

Still not something I would post.

If having a life entails calling for firing coaches and happy we only have one QB, I'll prefer to keep my boring existence.

That 50+ yard run from Vick was impressive. He can flat out fly in the open field and he went head first into the defenders trying to get to the end zone. Great play. Hope he's back soon

+1

Also, looking like he's developing a nice touch on the deep ball.

Only passing along info as I see it posted.
That's good news. Sounds like it isn't as bad as it could have been then.

When I saw the replay I thought it was a hyperextension. (Of course, I'm not a doctor and I didn't stay at a HIX last night.) The guy didn't roll up on Vick; he was on Vick's lower leg and Vick's foot couldn't move as he was moving backwards. His helmet also hit Vick's leg around the knee.

The fact that he was able to play one more play after the injury actually makes it sound bad to me. My guess is that he thought it was just a ding, so he stayed in, but when the trainer tested the knee on the sideline, the knee moved in ways it shouldn't, indicating more severe damage, and probably surgery ahead.

I hope I'm wrong. Vick has been a great runner, and has a nice passing touch, especially on the deep balls. Also, he seems like a great kid.

Don't think we should ever root for an injury to one of our own. With that being said I think DA's comments being taken a little out of context with what he was trying to express. Plus some people around here were pretty quick to throw TT under the bus last year when he was battling injuries and struggling. Just saying that sometimes fans comments on a board may sound insensitive when really not intended to be. I will take DA at his word and move on. The more healthy QB's we have available the better.

D.A. is about as big of an OHIO supporter as you will find. If all were like him, we'd have an 80,000 seat stadium with the most modern amenities and academic endowments at an Ivy level.

To question his loyalty and good will is not correct.

There wasn't a fan in the stands closer than I when Vick came off in obvious pain and was examined. By what I saw the few weeks Solich referred to will be the "few" left in the season. He couldn't begin to put weight on that leg when he was taken to the locker room.
Did anyone else see Duckworth come out with a manager during the 3rd qtr. in full uniform with a knee brace on? During the 1st half he was in shorts and jersey. I don't know if someone got nervous or what.

I’d like to acknowledge the handful of people who have such a dark and pessimistic view of life that they could possibly think that a fan could hope for the injury of one of their team’s players.

So here is what I did say, and then I’ll break it down for you: “If this is what it takes to settle on ONE QB, then I have to say that while it is a shame for DV, so be it.”

• “If this is what it takes to settle on ONE QB, so be it.”
o This is an indictment on the coaching staff who has refused to commit to Derrius as our quarterback, and unfortunately it took an injury to one of the two for them to commit to Sprague. (see my additional post, cited again below)
• “then I have to say that while it is a shame for DV”
o This is me saying it is a shame to Derrius.

And subsequently in a post: “It's clearly not an indictment on DV, but a statement on the lack of commitment by the coaches. I feel sorry for Derrius.”

Those posts came within 30 minutes of one another. I will grant you that the “so be it” could be interpreted in various ways, however my usage related to this seemingly being the only way the coaches could actually make the decision: by it having been made for them and taking it out of their hands.

However, I’m certain L.C. understood my comment,, as he followed up my original statement with his own statement pointing out a flaw in my logic, that Derrius getting injured actually may not mean we have settled on one quarterback: “I want to see more of Windham, now. ;)”

So to dispel all the rumors:

• I do not drown kittens in a bag.
• I don’t kick dogs.
• I don’t beat my kids. (principally because I don’t have kids)
• And at no point did I EVER hope for his injury, pre or postgame, either within myself, or in a post.

What I do have a beef with is the fact that this coaching staff continues to play into the cliché/stereotype that has been debated here: If you have two quarterbacks, then you don’t have a quarterback. And we all know that clichés/stereotypes are applicable because they are largely true. We have three INEXPERIENCED guys, all of whom have seen playing time this season. Instead of allowing one of the three inexperienced guys get as much experience as possible to prepare him for MAC play, it has seemingly taken the removal of one of those three to get us to the point where we have one primary QB. We had an opportunity to get Derrius as much experience as possible against the two best defenses we will face all season, yet the staff decided to give JD nearly as much PT as Derrius. Common wisdom says that you will improve most against the stiffest competition, and yet we chose to take that opportunity away from Derrius against Kentucky and Marshall, and now he is stuck rehabbing. One might say: “But this is precisely why you split the playing time.” And I can counter: “Had Derrius been permitted to play the snaps that JD had against Kentucky and Marshall, perhaps the experience gained would have allowed him to have the presence of mind to avoid the low blow.” If’s and but’s.

So let me break it down for you further:

• I like Derrius Vick…A LOT. I think he is a phenomenal young man and a proud benchmark for OHIO student athletes and a great ambassador for the University.
• I think Derrius should have been our QB from day one, is our best chance of succeeding in 2014, and if/when he struggles, he should be permitted to continue to learn through those struggles.
• I think it is a failure of the coaching staff that Derrius was not permitted to play out the games V Kentucky/Marshall.
• I think what happened to him is a shame. (see above)
• We have played four teams this season, and the third toughest defense our offense has faced in 2014 to date, if not for the remainder of the season, is OHIO’s defense. Every day of practice since two a days started, our second and third string QB’s have been facing our D, and if they are not getting enough experience to prepare them for game action in that practice, then to me that says we have another coaching issue.
• I also like JD…A LOT. I think he is a phenomenal young man and a proud benchmark for OHIO student athletes and a great ambassador for the University.
• I hope he makes the most of this opportunity, and wins a lot of ballgames for us.
• I complemented him with a thread in game citing his toughness, comparing him to an early TT.
• And when Derrius is healthy, I hope we don’t go back to being half pregnant, and flip flopping on the position. Derrius and JD have handled the situation very professionally by supporting each other, and it is a shame our coaches can’t choose their choice, and instead allow the indecision to fester.

And it’s also a shame that I couldn’t be given the benefit of the doubt regarding this non-matter. But I am built of thicker skin than most, so I don’t really spend much time caring what any of you think of me. And if you don’t like my posts, then ignore them.

I went back and watched the play over again, and from the look of it I don't think the injury will turn out to be that bad. After the hit Vick actually stayed in the game and actually ran two more plays and then left the field on his own with a slight limp. If this was a serious injury he would have left the game after the hit and wouldn't have been out there for multiple plays. My guess is it's a mild sprain.

Weird thing about Vick injury is that he was hit and hurt on his next to last play at Kent, too. Played an additional down with no apparent limp, etc., and then was a hobbling on the sidelines immediately thereafter. Hope he is OK but the replay was pretty alarming.

Not sure I like an offense that's so dependent on our qb running (designed plays). They aren't built to take the hits. (I know that Vick did not get hurt on a running play.)

I've seen lots of QB's hurt on passing plays, but haven't seen many hurt on running plays. I'm sure it happens, but at least on runs, they know where the hit is coming from, usually.

It's tragic that you had to go into such detail to explain your point D.A. However I'm glad you did, for those that needed it. Chalk it up to hair-trigger processing of information on messageboards.

That aside, I'm hopeful that the update an earlier poster provided about Vick's situation is accurate.

In the Solich Show this morning, Coach Solich says no surgery needed for Vick.

Coach says he is "Doubtful" for this weekend... he only takes things a week at a time.

No matter what happens Saturday, he probably shouldn't play. Winning the MAC is more important than beating EIU, so we should keep him off the field and let him mend for the MAC games coming up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, L.C., but it's my recollection that coach Osborne did an extensive injury study on option QB's v traditional pocket-type QB's. Again, if memory serves, didn't coach conclude that pocket-types were hurt more frequently than option QB's?

I don't recall it, but it's certainly possible that he did a study like that. Just from my personal observation, I believe pocket-passers get hurt more often. TT's injury, whatever it was, did come on a running play, though.
