I'm curious who the regular posters on BA think could have posted this gem in the chat room:
"stoppenaltying: if you guys don’t like where football is, you need to be vociferous on the board--don’t let those who think solich and staff are gods get away with this." Now that's real class.

OhioCatFan, how does it go? Never wrestle with pigs, you get dirty and the pigs like it. The chat room is the last place I would be found during a game.

I was just lurking there. I didn't post. I agree with your general sentiments, but I kind of find the idiocy there to be entertaining in a perverse sort of way. This particular quote though got to me because it sounded like someone surreptitiously trying to orchestrate a Solich lynch mob. That makes me angry, and I wanted to call him or her out.

I have been attempting to cover the team's back for a while now. At this point the Bobcats should be trending upward. With each gain the team will be moving out of range from the mob. Usually given enough rope the mobsters hang themselves.

There are those who will always be unhappy with the situation. They'll be less unhappy at some times than at others, but they'll never be pleased until things are done exactly the way they want (whatever that may be). Take them with a grain of salt.

Like most everybody I'm not pleased with the last 2 1/2 seasons. But what I saw last night gives me hope for the next three years. Fiami had a senior (transfer) QB making his 12th start and he made freshman mistakes all night long. On the other hand, we were led by a corps of freshmen. Oullette, Poling, Cope and Nelson all played key parts to last night's win, and the first three have been important cogs all season long. They've shown a level of maturity well beyond their time at Ohio. Can't wait to see how these next three years play out.

This quote is just something you find disagreeable. It's an opinion plenty of people have expressed in regular threads. I fail to see the "lynch mob" being formed based upon it.

Of all the things said in the chat room, it seems really odd that something so tame stands out as worthy of a thread. Anyone who's spent time in there has seen a lot worse. The chat room can be fun during games, but it often reveals the darkest and ugliest side of this whole board.

By nature I'm an optimistic person, and when I watch football, I like to watch it with others people that see the positives, and not with pessimists and complainers. In prior years I found the chat room to be fun, and filled with hope and excitement, but this year it was indeed dark and ugly, so I quit dropping in. This year it seemed like when the Bobcats did well, there was only silence, but when they made a mistake, people had tons to say. To each their own, I guess.

Everyone already knows how the Negative Nancies feel, and everyone already knows how the Sunshine Sallies feel...it's going to be the same in the chat room, just amplified. Leave what is said in the chat room there, let it drift off into whatever data afterlife there is (maybe it will find the pre-crash comments and they can have a party), and don't worry about it so much.

My favorite is when people have things queued up ready to post. Any time the team we are playing scores or sometimes even gets a first down they ctrl+v things like "progess" "improvement" "expand peden". It's really weird.

Two nameless Bobcat "fans" even tried to bet me money that Miami would beat us. One tried to bet me a % of my income or something weird, but I'm pretty sure the other owes me pizza and a six pack in Athens. Lucky for him I forget his screen name.

:-) Military Bowl right? Need to work on the unit designation. Initials "SS" are not available. Quickly some initial thoughts to be worked into OPLAN. Aviation will be required to support helicopter insertion and close support of continued offensive operations. Structure of ground forces will be heavy with light support. Preparation should be for night operations. Shoot, Move and Communicate.

OCF--we disagree on a lot about football. That's fine. We're vigorous OHIO fans at heart so don't let the different opinions cleave us apart.

In that same vein, I disagree vehemently with you idea of curbing opinions. Whether someone is pro or con...or shares or doesn't share your opinion....they have the right to advocate so long as their point of view is not libelous, treacherous, intended to do great harm.

Monroe: Who said anything about curbing opinion? I just said that I find this chat room quote an attempt to stir up the natives to run Frank out of town on a rail. I will fight against this effort with tooth and nail. Whoever wrote this has a perfect right to be an idiot. You won't find a bigger supporter of First Amendment rights on this board. It protects wise speech and foolish speech just the same. It even protects idiots in the chat room. I have many faults but trying to stifle speech is not one of them.

The constant pessimism can get tiresome but I do appreciate the characters. "Never take the internet too seriously" is one of my prime rules and chat falls squarely in that category.

I will say, I always have chat open if I am at home watching the game. I definitely fit into the generational stereotype of having multiple windows open on multiple devices, all at once.

Interesting thread . I love the Chat rooms. Helps that I can typo without looking at the keyboard. It is a good place for guys like me to comment on in game activity and plays with friends in the same way i would were I at the game. I dont comment on players, coaches or admin decisions as the chat to me is the place to talk about the game. It was interesting the other night to have fB in there with BB. Lots of talk. I think bball is harder to be overly negative as there is not as much time between plays to ruminate.

The other strange thing in chat is the lack of identity. Alan goes bonkers when guys post anonymously. Probably a good reason to sta y out of the chat.....though he has been seen there on occasion under nom de plume
