Gag reflex working on overdrive as I watch today's Fox telecast.
I posted about this last year and got no response: OSU apparently now has some branding requirement that they be referred to as the "World Famous" Ohio State Buckeyes during national telecasts. This "brand" was used twice during the intro to today's game. Then, even worse, as the Buckeyes lined up for their first play, announcer Gus Johnson said, "Let's take a look at the offensive line for the 'World Famous' (w/o the rest of the name).
Small penises up there in Columbus?
Secondly, I've never heard a national play-by-play announcer scream in joy during a play. Johnson emitted guttural screams, along with "Yeah!" after successive Rourke sacks.
This is sickening.

I think that Gus Johnson does this just to show his respect for Jessie Owens

I heard a couple "world famous" references and did not understand what he was saying. That's really bizarre.

FWIW, exaggerated use of the "world-famous" adjective seems to be the norm in the casual dining universe:

You realize that the University has nothing to do with this and it’s not them “Branding” anything.

Explain it, then. No other Big Ten school is given this "title." Just a Fox network thing? Referring to the offensive line as "the world-famous?"

Two people already did. It's a choice Gus Johnson makes, and it's a reference to Jesse Owens.

It’s funny, Gus Johnson two weeks earlier was criticized for sounding disappointed on an OSU touchdown call.

Mark Spitz swam at Indiana. Why isn't their football team "world famous?" Just really stupid, especially the "world famous offensive line."

Gus must not like swimming as much as he does Track. But again, it’s not an OSU “Branding” as you initially posted

Did Jesse Owens go to Indiana? Did Mark Spitz win any gold medals with Hitler in the stands?

Yes. The Ohio Bobcats had a running back Jesse Owens (84-87) who gained 1,600+ yards and 11 TDs on some pretty bad teams. A real tough kid, IIRC.
