This is a road game but, stating the obvious, one we had better win.

Ohio is now second in D1A/FBS in fewest points allowed in the first quarter. Just 12; no TDs and only four FGs. Indiana is best -- no points allowed in the first quarter this season.

Having a day game on a Wednesday would be a new low for the MAC.

If you wrote this just to try have a gotcha moment over the game being on ESPN2 then you should be banned and fired into the sun.

Not necessarily a gotcha, but a major difference in terms of average viewership and reach. Although both are absolute anachocristic dinosaurs in 2024. Do we even know if the game is on 2 or U as of today?

If I had to guess, NIU at Western is more likely to be on ESPN. So probably ESPN2.

The only options are 2 or U for MAC football.

On another thread I said this could be a trap game. Winless Kent just before a much better EMU team at home. We always seem to get a better effort from Kent at their place. They beat us two years ago when they went 5-7 and we went to the MACCG. We beat them in 2014, 1016 and 2018 by less than a TD when they were 2-9, 3-9 and 2-10 while we were winning six or more games each of those years, and they handed us our heads in 2010 and 2012. Can't look past them.

Kent was a -12.5 point favorite in that game two years ago. They were coming off of a MAC East winning season and we were coming off a 3-win season. Granted, this was game six and they hadn't looked quite as good as they year before and, while our offense had shown a lot of improvement from the year before, our defense had shown what, to that point, looked like a lot of regression. We gave up 736 yards in this game just trying not to surrender big passing plays and probably should have lost a lot worse that 31-24 in OT. And none of us were surprised at all by giving up 700 yards. The defense surrendered 333 yards and forced 6 turnovers the next week against WMU and played like that for the rest of the year and through 2023. I know we changed schemes and probably took some time to adapt but it is still a head scratcher. It is almost like we had two different defenses and a whole different group showed up for WMU on but the first half the season and second half of the season defense were made of the same players.

I don't think so. The boys need that 6th win next week.

Kent State is beyond dreadful. They are the worst team in FBS and would be a bottom tier FCS program right now if they dropped down. St Francis, a 2-6 FCS team, beat Kent State this year at Kent. Need I say more. Ohio can sleepwalk through this game and still come out a double digit winner.

If this were a basketball game, we could expect a nice summary from Jeff about the dangers of this being a trap game.

I'm aware these games are scheduled far in advance, but even the dumbest person at the MAC office or ESPN could predict Kent was going to be absolutely terrible this year, and these morons put them on national TV in a MACtion slot. As soon as a casual observer sees 0-8 next to Kent State's name on the screen they're going to immediately change the channel, with an occasional flip back to check the score.

In November, just about all MAC games are in national TV MACtion slots. The only Saturday game left before Thanksgiving is BG-BSU on the 23rd. Kent has to play somebody, somewhere, sometime. After us, they have MOFO and Akron(!) set for a regular ESPN channel or CBSSN, then Buffalo on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving probably on ESPN+ (only one MAC slot on ESPN that night and the other game is Toledo-Akron). Most of the better matchups were played in September and October when it's warmer and people are more likely to show up. Unless Kent plays all Saturday games in November (not easy to do, given that their opponents would play midweek games) they have to play some midweek games.
