Just need to watch the last two minutes of the first half to understand the game. We have no concept of play calling when you get first and goal at the 5, then run three shit plays to kick a FG (3 times we kick FG in Red Zone in first half). Part of the problem is you have a rotational QB who cant throw as your QB1. They go down the field in a minute and score a TD with little resistance. Also, very little effort to get our TE's involved today, but that goes to the limited passing ability of our QB.

Ohio State fans are not going to like to hear this, because they are a bitter lot, after all, but McCord is the one who beat us today. He was able to thread the needle and looks like the kind of talent that will end up playing on Sundays. I think the Bobcats, themselves, will figure it out on Offense, but I question whether Navarro is really 6 feet tall as his Stats report, and I don't think he was quick enough on the rollouts today in order to beat those athletic Studs up front for Syracuse. I think that he will be fine against MAC competition. Can we just cancel the game against Kentucky before we suffer anymore injuries? Why are we playing SEC talent to begin with? There is no upside to this, is there?

The play calling was terrible and cost us a chance to win the game. We had 6 or 7 plays inside the Syracuse 15 towards the end of the first half and Tyus, who was ripping off chunk play after chunk play, touched the ball exactly zero times. Our last possession, 4th and 2 with 2 minutes left, Navarro and Tyus line up in the backfield and Navarro decides to keep it for a loss. The guy two feet from you can't be stopped by the defense but let's not give him the ball and allow the QB, that had trouble avoiding TFLs all night, carry the ball with the game on the line. It boggles the mind.

Yes that was a very bad decision. I know that it's easier to see some things from the stands then it is on the field, but a pitch to Tyus was probably a TD or a gain to the 3 yard line or so.

There were definitely some frustrating play calls and spots in the first half where we had a chance to score TD’s instead of field goals, but on the positive side I’m very sure we can win every game for the rest of the season outside of the Kentucky match up.

I expect about 37-38K for the game. Assuming no serious injuries I think Cuse wins 38-21.
If the game ended now this woukd be a heck of a prediction.
Blind Squirrel--->nut

I just know how we show over Labor Day openers.

Talked to a few Ohio fans. Hard to say how many were there. I figure about 3-400. Good to see a few younger fans make the trip.

Our HC said they gave Ohio some disguised looks inside the red zone which was effective. That probably explains the bad results.

Albin is a great coach. He is great at rebuilding...which due to the transfer and NIL rules is neccesary. You'll be close to 10 wins again.

(2) starts for our reserve QB was impressive. Last years bowl game and Syracuse in the Dome were
Navarro's 1st & 2nd. Not to mention a new team with so many transfers. Job well done coach!

Jeremiah Wood with a career-ending ACL tear. Brutal way to go out. Kendall Bannister needed help getting off the field. Any other injuries?

I agree ….but some on here don’t think he’s the answer.

Our backup QB can throw but can he run the offense like Parker.

Give the kid a chance.

If he sucks game 3 then see what someone else can do.

Complaining about timing in game one is ridiculous.

Can he improve his passing?

Stay tuned.

Though we lost, I thought we looked like a team with a good deal of talent that that needed to develop a little more chemistry to be a really good team, with so many newer parts.

Does anyone know why Eamonn Dennis didn't play? With his blinding speed, I thought he'd get a few reps.

Albin said in the post game presser that Bannister is likely out for the year with an ACL injury.

He did mention that Adonis Williams got hurt but not sure to what extent.

We will be seeing more of Mike Mack and Tony Mathis this season.

It was surprising to not see Dennis or Pugh get any playing time. Albin said they held out Rodarte due to injury and that Coleman Owen played too many snaps so maybe that's why?

Or maybe there are more injuries at the WR position?

As I said during the game, I am pretty sure Williams is a concussion. He tackled one of the Syracuse receivers. The Syracuse player stayed down on the field. It looked like Williams wanted to stay in. They pulled him out and he didn't reenter. It didn't look like a bad one but he had a bad one last year. They might be even more careful as a result.

We looked OK against the pass early. I'm not sure if the troubles were from missing Wood and Williams or just McCord shaking off rust as the game progressed. It honestly looked like the latter. Some of it was coverage but there were some great throw and catch plays that would be hard for anyone to defend.

I think Adonis kinda rang his own bell after that hard hit over the middle. Shay Taylor only played the first quarter I believe. Bowman stepped up nicely though.

Bowman…..aka Head Banger.

Let him play…..he and Leake should be adequate but I hope Shay Taylor can return.

He looked so defeated. He was having a terrific season, now this horrible game is gonna define it. Tough. Looked like a volleyball game out there.

First and third interceptions were bad decisions on McCord's behalf. The second interception was a fun highlight reel catch when it came down in the hands of the defender who was stretched out on the ground, but freakishly lucky. The fourth was forced. Syracuse was doing better in the second half when they started to work the sidelines, only to get into trouble when they tried passing over the middle again. The rap on McCord at Ohio State was that he left something to be desired while under pressure. While I would certainly blame McCord for the first and third interceptions, I think the real story here was how well Pittsburgh prepared for Syracuse and then executed during the game. Syracuse got outcoached and outplayed. Pitt looks good.

If I recall correctly, in addition to an actual interception, in OHIO’s game against the Orange we had two or three “near interceptions” which if successful could have easily changed the outcome of the game.

Does a “near” interception count? We get points for it?
