The Giants announced that Nathan was released this morning. It seems to me that he has landed in places not in need of a player with his potential. Places like Indianapolis, Atlanta, or Pittsburgh would seem better choices

Yep.

Every time he is signed I sigh.

You definitely cannot turn down an NFL check, but he keeps going to places that have 33 QB's on the roster, and at least one - sometimes TWO - entrenched back-ups.

I think he would be a good 3rd in Cleveland.

As a lapsed Browns fan. It would appear that he wouldn’t be a bad first stringer for them. I did follow him when he played in Canada and he sure looked good. As in college he had good accuracy on long throws and he is really fast afoot for a quarterback.

The feeling around here was that he'd make a good third string QB for the Giants.
Doesn't seem like he got much of a chance to prove himself.

Have we considered putting him in a wig and Gracho Marx glasses and signing him as an unknown freshman out of Manitoba or Saskatoon?

Best chance he’s had to stick with that release. Potential practice squad eligibility left, haven’t looked in a min, but I believe it’s 4 years.

NFL teams are allowed to have six of their 16 practice squad players be players who have an unlimited number of accrued seasons. One of the positive developments of "COVID."

Is that easier than beating out Devito? Heinicke has the experience. DeVito has the promise of youth.

So they don’t include any up front money. That would be strange to me.

I'm not sure that Atlanta was a good landing spot.

Nathan probably has no shot at live snaps, and his best shot is to reach #3, and the Practice Squad. His problem is that, while he is good, he needs to prove it in live snaps, and he keeps landing in places where he is unlikely to get any live snaps.

Veteran players (two years+) receive $3,200 per week during training camp, which increases to $3,500 per week in the 2025 and 2026 league years.

First-year NFL players receive a weekly rate of $1,850 during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, and this amount rises to $2,000 per week in the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

The CBA also stipulates that every NFL player is provided with room and board during training camp.

That's a far cry from his $915k contract. As cc-cat points out, the contract is only theoretical, and he doesn't get the contract amount unless he makes the roster. At Jacksonville, while he never played, he was actually activated for a couple of weeks, and thus got his contract amount for those weeks.

INDY. Could really be efficient in our RPO system. Would also be a better fit for that system than Flacco while beating out Ehrlinger.

Yeah, Rourke is a real pro and has really improved since he was in college, especially throwing the ball. I've heard the NFL coaches are really impressed by him but will he ever get that shot on an NFL field to prove that he can play? I'd love to see him get at least a few regular season games to see what he can do.

NFC South news. Falcons strongly expected to waive Heinicke (saving $1+ million) and keeping Rourke as emergency 3rd QB. Falcons play friday and are expected to give Heinicke snaps in order to see if they can bleed a pick out of another team.

With Cousins coming off of rehab, the injury history of Pennix in College, and rumors about Heinike being potentially shipped out in order to save money, I could envision a scenario where Mr. Rourke sees some playing time.

Other than that run, he was 3-13 for 37 yards. His main competitor, Hienicke, was worse, going 4-11 for only 7 yards, plus getting sacked for 7 yards, and fumbling once. It's a shame Nathan couldn't get the ball into the endzone at the end of the game. That might have raised his stock a lot.

If he was cut to sign the player that they cut to sign him then that isn't a good sign at all. It might end right now.

How sad that this kid can't get a break. He needs to go back to the CFL and become a legend there, if, in fact, he truly wants to continue playing football.
