Realistically who could Ohio even approach? High end FCS coaches like a Brent Vigen at Montana State would probably see this as a lateral move. Top assistants are going somewhere like the American (Hartline).

If Ohio moves on from Hauser, I want to see a young up-and-comer who's hungry to build something of his own.

Go with Hauser.

Hire an offensive coordinator.

Promote an on staff person to defensive coordinator.

This is what I expect will eventually happen.

It’s got to be Hauser in my opinion, if he wants it.

- Hauser... would they ask him to coach on an interim basis for an entire season, while they await a bigger candidate pool? Can't say I'd be eager to sign on for that, though it sure beats unemployment.

- Bryant Haines, DC at Indiana - From right outside Columbus. All-MAC at Ball State. Put together a really impressive defense in Bloomington. Just named assistant of the year. A big swing, but he's available. And so are we.

- Spense, DC New Mexico - I'd kick the tires on Spense, for sure.

- TETTLETIME, WR Coach Jacksonville Jaguars - I'd bring in Tettleton as Offensive Coordinator. Maybe even see if he's ready to jump in with both feet as Head Coach. These days you gotta take a big swing and a young eager coach will fire up everyone. Also won't hurt with alumni relations.

- Dan Jackson, HC SDSU - I bet Lars wants to talk to Dan to gauge his interest. He also spent some time at NIU. (Vandy, Idaho as well)

- Mike Shananahan (not that one), OC at Indiana - Was brought up as a potential hire for Toledo. Has really done wonders with Cig at JMU and IU.

- Deland McCullough, RB Coach Las Vegas Raiders - Julie interviewed him the last cycle. Spent some time at Notre Dame. Won a ring as the RB coach with Kansas City.

- Mike Denbrock, OC Notre Dame - I believe Julie also interviewed him the last cycle. His name has been kicked around a few times regarding G5 jobs. Doesn't have one though, likely because of those beautiful golden handcuffs. A $2.1M coordinator role sounds like a dream.

Former Old Dominion HC Bobby Wilder.

Coach OD for ten years, took over a garbage Tn Tech program and went 18-7/13-2

And that was in Cookeville TN which is a real dud of a town. A real zero.

Total record as a head coach: 95-63

Really hate what NIL, etc. has done to college sports and I know there is no going back. Maybe it's time to lean into it - do a private equity deal with Barstool Sports and give them team control.

Pros - short term recruiting, media, and financial boost. Could have Gruden working with the team.
Cons - no real accountability or leadership. Will turn into a circus/mess eventually and will end up with terminations for "engaging in serious professional misconduct and participating in activities that reflect unfavorably on the University" otherwise known as status quo.

This is obviously a joke but it doesn't mean I'm not a little interested in seeing it happen. A smaller program will likely try to do this at some point.

Utah is doing it now. I've heard they aim to increase revenue by $30 million in one year. People are looking to see how they will do it. If it means $25 bottles of water, count me out. Their coach stepped down almost immediately. To me that means he didn't like what he heard.

My partner recently got laid off from her job of 7 years because they were bought out by a private equity firm. Their #1 goal is to generate alpha for their investors and they'll do it by any means necessary to get there. I think this can of worms that has been opened is going to be an enormous problem. The short-term dollars aren't worth the long-term repercussions.

This is actually pretty interesting to see now that players actually have some leverage. I don't think the admin can just ignore these things now in the NIL/Portal age.

Per his lawyer's statement, guess we could add Brian Smith's name to the list. Can you sue for a temporary order to stop something like this?

The coach at Minnesota State actually got his job back after termination. It took him several years--no temporary restraining order. I doubt that it would happen in this situation, and a temporary restraining order wouldn't make sense.

Let's not overthink this. Stick with continuity.

John Hauser.

I have a feeling the players are gonna play hard for him in the Frisco Bowl.

Yeah, DJ is a team captain who I would’ve worried about hitting the portal anyway. Hire Hauser.

Perhaps the aggressive statement is just posturing for financial settlement and future employment avenues. The only successful injunctions regarding employment I can think of are recent cases regarding the Trump administration and federal employees, but can't imagine precedent there would affect this case.

I think there are unions with the power to step in and stop terminations/leaves when the result of an investigation is in doubt, but Smith's contract makes clear that he can be fired anytime.

All that's in debate now is if his firing is correctly considered "For Cause."

I would entertain Nick Toth or Kevin Carberry. Hauser would be a great choice but I assume a building cleanse is coming. Doesn’t Nowinsky still have a residence I Athens? I think all four are capable and would be welcome.
