I believe that this is the one position Schaus would leave OHIO for. Does anyone know if his parents are still alive and still living in Morgantown? Has he been burning up the road between here and there frequently to visit them? If so, we are probably going to be looking for a new AD soon.

An idle thought: I wonder if Frank would be interested in taking the AD job and then hiring his replacement. Is that too far fetched?

I think Jim has 1 more career stop going up the ladder of success. I think WVU is a great opportunity for him if he decides to pursue their AD position.
If he leaves, he certainly has left our athletic department light years ahead of where he found it when he arrived.

Our chances of losing JS doubled with the dismissal of Pederson at Pitt tonight.

I'm nowhere close to the situation, so I have no clue. Is there ANY possibility that Schaus likes Ohio so much that he stays?

Personally, I would hope we wouldn't go for Frank as AD. I like Frank as a coach, but he seems almost too loyal and afraid to make big decisions. I think he'd likely go with a coach for football out of loyalty and not go for somebody who might move the program to the next level. I think he'd hire from within.

I think that he would like a lot of other places as well. No real connections to stay here if right job comes along.

As stated earlier, the local geography is important to him and a restraining factor. I don't believe we'll see him leave for any place that is farther from Morgantown than Ohio. Pitt would be a possibility. And, of course, there's nothing closer to Morgantown than Morgantown! :-)

Odd. I didn't see Steve Pederson on any of those lists of prospects. He's experienced, and available.

Solich should bring him on board as a grad asst. Is he interested in a football career?

OCF, I think the days of an ex or current head football coach becoming an AD are long past. The demands of the position today require an experienced manager of multiple programs. People pretty much now have to work their way up through the system, right?

Back in the old days in the South, it was fairly common for the football coach to also serve as AD. Basketball and the other sports weren't considered that important compared to football.

Well, Solich's old friend Barry up at U. of Wisconsin somehow pulled it off.

Talk about a big story for Ohio Athletics that did not happen. Schaus has been at Ohio 7 years this April and he's done what he was mainly brought into do by taking the basketball program to the next level. There is still a lot of work to be done here on the facility side of things and that may be why he's staying.

He's not really Gee's type of guy. Nothing at all against Jim, but if you know Gordon, this is not surprising move at all.

Wouldn't like Jim's choice in neckties?

I would imagine it was more of a business move to keep donors happy. He's from West Virginia and graduated from there. Yeah Jim has the credentials to be outstanding there but part of it is you also keep your donors happy, and nothing makes a donor feel good about a guy more than "he's one of us."

Can anyone tell me the status of the Pitt AD search. I haven't followed this too closely.
