What, you mean about how FB attendance is a total sham by including tickets sold (not just butts in seats), while hoops and WVB attendance is purer than the wind driven snow? (but is actually reported the exact same way as FB)

Isn't there more complaining about basketball attendance?

I see both, however we do have people here that are adamant that Convo event attendance is always based on butts in seats, not on tickets sold, which was my interpretation of OK's comment above.

^I have no idea on this past Saturday, but I have been told as a fact that both Peden and Convo attendance includes seats sold and not used.

However, the opinion expressed from several posters is that Convo attendance is based solely on butts in seats, and that reported Peden attendance is a sham because it includes tickets sold and not used.

I should add that I believe the relevant number is the number as it is presently reported, and that actual butts in seats is largely irrelevant to me, save for the fact that if people bought their tickets day of and are in the stands, it helps boost the total revenues. I could care less about optics.

Tickets sold and unused are FANTASTIC, because the tickets are SOLD, and created revenue for the event. If we sold 13,000 tickets for an event in the Convo, and no one showed up to see it, I couldn't care less, except for the unfortunate demise of the unsold pretzels in the concession stands.

Do you want to know the real truth?

It's just a made up number. They know the number of people in the building and then usually just add 10-15%. That may differ when you start talking about the full house crowds, but the average game crowds are just a inflated number of people there. In a circumstance like a weekday football game, it will be tickets sold. All schools do it this way unless you are selling out every game.

Reading the release I wondered what records would be broken if we actually played someone of high quality at home (other than Marshall).

That is the funniest and most accurate assessment of data manipulation I've ever read.

I'd question Marshall equals high quality. The best crowds ever at home were in 2012 on the backs of that Penn State win.

Anyone can debate attendance numbers, but the best part of the release is the $$$ and season ticket records. The bottom line can't be manipulated, and to have 3 top 20 revenue games in one year is great.

Of course the revenue will hire. It's like movie revenue. Tickets cost a lot more in Peden than they did 10 years ago - a lot more.

It's still a huge bargain compared to a game in, say, Columbus, though. Also, the family pack is still one of the best bargains ever.

For sure! And let me tell you, it's also cheaper than a game in Ann Arbor! I like Ann Arbor, but there's nothing inexpensive about that place!!

Hmmm... we're selling more and at higher prices and still considered a huge bargain. Alan, if you're not careful, you're going to end up with a higher premium on those chairbacks you adore so much ;)

OU needs to increase stadium seating to 30-35K or more and schedule more "brand name" teams/conferences in Athens. This will help in attendance and recruiting which may then help us move up to a larger, more prestigious conference. We need to grow our way out of the MAC over the next few years or remain condemned to our current mid-major purgatory. Visualize what 35,000 or more fans in Peden to see a competitive OU vs. West Virginia, Purdue or Pitt would do for the community and the program. If done correctly, it will snowball on itself. Takes money, yes, but also vision and courage.

The release said there was a 15 percent increase in season ticket holders this year. It sounds to me that the season ticket holder boom of the last few years is starting to level off. OHIO was up 35% in season ticket holders in 2012. In 2013 there was 23% increase in ticket revenue, football and basketball combined. A .500 football season this year and basketball sitting at 3-3 is not going to help.

15% is still a decent number. If, say we had 8,000 season ticket holders...a 15% increase is a bump of 1,200. Most schools would take that.

A 15% bump for what was almost universally expected to be a rebuilding year isn't bad. The expectation will be higher next year, so hopefully season tickets will grow again.
