If the game is at Toledo, they have been perfect since long before Solich! Anyone know when the last OHIO win at Toledo was?
Not sure, but I think it may have been back when I was in school. Or it might have been back in Ephraim Cutler's day. It's been a long, long time. And, I believe we only have one home win against them in that same long time spell. Solich almost got one several years ago at Toledo, but someone muffed a punt late in the game and set up a winning score. Anyone else remember more details about that game?
In 2007, Chris Garrett fumbled a punt for the seventh turnover of the game, Toledo kicked a field goal as time expired, and Ohio lost 43-40. That turnover total also didn't include a play in which Ohio blocked a punt, but lost possession because it was ruled the Bobcats touched it beyond the line of scrimmage.
Thanks for remembering the details. I still don't understand the touch beyond the line of scrimmage call. Can anyone explain this call to me?
Basic rule of football on a scrimmage kick, once the return team touches the ball across the neutral zone, that now becomes a live ball and can then be recovered as a new set of downs by the kicking team. A distinction, a punt is not blocked if it lands beyond the neutral zone.

The last Ohio win at Toledo was on Sept 16, 1967, 20-14.

Several MAC schedules floating around Twitter. No Ohio as of yet.

Pretty tough draw, as I think Balls was a much better team than they showed in 2014. Should toughen us up for the MACC, and I might make the roadie to NIU, which would be my last stop in the MAC road tour for me.

No UMass, and we draw WMU, BSU, and NIU from the west.

Not really sure how I feel about that.

I think the west comes down to either Ball State or WMU next year. Toledo and NIU both lose 6 starters from their offense and 3 from defense, so they should take a small step backwards. Meanwhile Ball State returns 20 starters, which should move them up quite a bit. NIU does get the advantage of the easiest schedule, dodging both BG and U.Mass, and playing Ohio, Ball State and WMU at home. The bottom of the West should be CMU, who loses 6 starters on both offense and defense, followed by EMU.

The East should come down to Ohio, BG, and U.Mass, and no one else should be close to those three. Bowling Green gets both U.Mass and Ohio at home, so they have an advantage there, and that, plus the fact that they are the defending MAC East champs, should make them the preseason favorite.

Will we beat a team from the West next year? Boy, that would be nice.

WMU could be MAC favorite for next year.

I think our best chance to beat a West team will be BSU. We have them at home and, depending on when we get them, they might be pretty one-dimensional on offense. They lose their top two rushers from this year -- with a combined 1500 yds -- and nobody returning rushed for 100 yds total for all of last year. They improved as last season went on, going 1-5 in the first half then 4-2 the rest of the way. Their QBs were pretty average. Defense was constant at giving up about 25 pts a game in both halves of the season.

Ohio will need to win at least 2 of 3 against the West, preferably all three. The good news is that Ohio and Solich have decent records against these three West teams. (It is against Toledo and CMU that both Ohio and Solich seem to have the worst results, historically.) Ohio's record all-time against the various West teams:

EMU 18-11-1 .617 (Solich 5-0)
WMU 28-31-1 .475 (Solich 1-2)
NIU 9-11-0 .450 (Solich 2-2)
Ball State 8-15-0 .348 (Solich 2-2)
Toledo 13-31-1 .300 (Solich 0-3)
CMU 5-22-2 .207 (Solich 1-6)

How the East SOS looks in MAC play, based on last year's results (last year's Kent-Buffalo game was snowed out, so the totals aren't even):

Akron: 24-38 (two teams with winning records)
Fiami: 26-36 (two teams with winning records)
UMass: 26-36 (two teams with winning records)
BG: 29-33 (two teams with winning records)
Buffalo: 30-33 (three teams with winning records)
Ohio: 31-31 (three teams with winning records)
Kent: 32-31 (three teams with winning records)

Tom McCabe was the referee of that game?
