Does anyone have a similar report for Ohio? Obviously they don't show that kind of profit for football or basketball, and probably a loss for both, but a report like this would help to answer the question of what portion of those student fees is going to support football, and what portion to other sports.

But we're talking Nebraska who has B1G Network revenues. Is there a MAC school where football even makes a profit to "carry the load"?

I agree that the clarity would be good in terms of everyone know the facts. The problem could be that some sports are such huge money losers, that they don't want to share that. I have to believe that most years, mens basketball makes a little bit, while most other sports lose quite a bit.

Does it matter whether a sport like Cross Country is subsidized by football (as above), or by fees (Ohio)? Either way, all the minor sports are heavily subsidized.

As I said above, the sports at the top of the list would be very different at Ohio, but the ones nearer to the bottom are probably not that much different, except that with all their football revenue, Nebraska may spend more lavishly even on minor sports.

In any case, transparency is possible. There is no reason Ohio couldn't release similar numbers, and those numbers would answer a lot of questions.

The sports at the bottom of the list all have significant losses, whether at Nebraska, Ohio, or anywhere else and we know that. What we don't know is how much loss can be attributed to each. The other thing we don't know is, at Ohio, how much loss, if any, can be attributed to the sports at the top of the list, such as Football, Basketball, and Volleyball. How can you debate whether eliminating a sport would save money if you don't know what the revenues and expenses for that sport are?

It's hard to know, showing that even this much transparency doesn't answer all questions. My guess is that the Men's and Women's basketball expenses are on the high side because they just built a new Arena last year, and I'd guess that there is a high facilities costs involved.

I doubt that an arena would be included in a sports cost! That would be offset in a university capital improvement.
