I believe I saw somewhere that Nathan was applying for a sixth year. I just saw Rutgers announce that the NCAA just approved a sixth year for one of their players. This week would be extra special if Nathan were to be added to 2015's group of safeties. Has anyone heard of any NCAA action upon his request?

Wouldn't we have to hold a scholarship for him just in case? With signing day a few days away, I'd have to believe the coaches already know the answer even if we don't.

My recollection is that this is a injury that has not responded well to surgery. I am not sure of the latest thoughts on his being able to play pain free for an entire season.

David Brown got a 6th year for WMU's basketball team this year. I read that his scholarship can be "borrowed" from a future year (see below). Not sure if its the same in Basketball as it is in Football though.

Quote:expand_more
A team is allowed to over-recruit by one scholarship when it is going through the process of petitioning for a sixth year for one of its players, meaning the Broncos could potentially have 14 scholarship players for one season next year and then they would have to play with 12 the next season.

It is based on the premise that if a sixth year is not granted to the player the team would not be at a disadvantage on number of scholarship players.

I last heard he was hanging up his cleats. Not sure if that has changed.

Ohio FB: Just got confirmation that Ohio safety Nathan Carpenter was granted a 6th year by the NCAA (hardship/injury waiver).

Carpenter shut down after Marshall game last season. Hip/groin issues. Had surgery today, his third in last 13 months or so

Carpenter will likely sit out spring camp. He said surgery was successful and he's on "the recovery train"

Good to hear, although I really don't know how we're going to get all our new freshmen/transfers in.

Could a grad assistant with eligibility remaining suit up as a player? That can't be allowed, can it?

If this keeps Mr. Carpenter's leadership on the team the benefit will be huge even if his recovery takes a while.

Nathan's brother Jon, who played at UC, will be the new head coach at Lima Shawnee. Quite a football family.
