Can someone on campus tell me how well the IPF is being utilized so far? It was marketed for multi use, so I'm just wondering what actually goes on in this building besides football practices.

Softball has posted pictures of pre-season conditioning. That previously would have been done in the shed behind the field.

I've seen almost every outdoor sport and club use it at one point or another.

When my wife and I were out at O.U. in November we talked to the people at the desk about this.

They told us that its in use constantly, including by R.O.T.C. almost every morning.

They also said the 110 has had practices there.

When we walked past it at night there were a bunch of students using the track.

I've heard similar as RPBobcat, being used many hours a day. Hope there's some planning ahead on field replacement whenever that comes. Might be earlier than expected if it's busy 10+ hours a day.

Also, https://twitter.com/OUWalterFH is out there. Doesn't really give you a schedule, but you get an idea of things going on.

My cousin, who is a senior in high school, just went to a baseball camp there. He liked it.

My wife and I made a 5-Year pledge to the facility so we made it a point to stop by with our daughter on our way back to Virginia after visiting my family in Columbus during the Christmas holiday.

First off, pictures do not do justice in respect to how big the facility is. We walked around the entire track and it also looks much larger than it does from the outside in person.

The lobby entrance was very nice and the staff person was very accommodating.

While the track is not officially the same size as an outdoor or indoor track, it will be of great benefit to the track team and others who train on the track. It also has a long jump and pole vault pit.

There is also a netting system that can divide the field into sections so that multiple teams can safely use the facility at the same time. I also noticed multiple nets that drop down to create batting cages for baseball and softball.

In addition to varsity sports, the band, intramurals and other community events, the ROTC does (as mentioned above) uses the facility. There is a full page picture on the back inside cover of the current Alumni magazine of the ROTC training in the facility. During my ROTC Boot Camp at Fort Knox (Summer of 1983) I had a lot of sawdust from the exercise pit kicked into my face during 5am four point push ups. A few rubber pellets should not be too bad.

I know that many would make changes to the facility, but based on space and financial considerations, I think the facility is of high quality and will benefit many students, alumni and others from the community.

BG86, so can you confirm that the field is full-length and full-width? I know when they first announced the plans for the IPF they said the the field would be full-length but only about 3/4-width. Later releases talked about it being "full-sized" (or something along those lines), and I've never been clear if they revised the original specs upwards or not. Though I've driven by it a number of times, I've never actually walked inside yet.

OCF: I am 100% certain the field is the regulation full length of 120 yards including the end-zones. I am 95% sure the field is regulation width.

The corners of the end-zone are cut off by the track which is pretty common. I have seen pictures such as Akron where more of the corner is cut off.

This is hard believe, but UCLA does not have a full size outdoor practice field. When you look at the picture you will see the field is only 80 (100 yards including end-zone) yards as there are no 40 yard lines.

Thanks, BG86, I trust your judgement. I'm glad that it's not the smaller width that they originally announced. Yes the track messes with the endzone a little, but that's kind of standard practice. Not a big deal. But a narrower field, I would think, would not make for totally realistic practices. Surprised about UCLA.

As I said, I am not quite a 100% sure about the width.

Although the UCLA field is not a full 100 yards, it would probably be more important that the width be regulation when practicing sideline pass patterns from the hash marks.

The Bobcat Logo in the IFP looks to be the exact same size as Peden stretching from the 40 yard lines. The hash marks and yard lines seem to be about the right distance from the sideline.

You can also see the two hitting cage nets in this picture.

The old outdoor logo was a bit smaller not stretching out as close to the 40 yard line. https://blackandyellow12.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/dscn...

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear we're utilizing the building as intended. I will be on campus in March, so can anyone just walk in to see the facility or did you have to schedule a tour? Also might be a dumb question, but no goalposts even on the walls for the kickers to practice?

The field is regulation width as well, 160', plus an additional 6' or so on the sidelines. The Attack Cat is exactly the same as in Peden, just "flipped" to face towards Ping, which is the side the viewing platform is on. Somewhat odd, but the viewing platform is centered sort of between the 40-45 yard lines, not directly on the 50. As you can see from photos, both HS and College hashes are permanently sewn in. There are also some other black markers sewn into the turf that I'm not exactly sure what they are for...

The netting also is/has netting for the golf team to hit into, as well as the softball/baseball netting.

Once the netting is dropped down, there are goal posts woven into the netting on each end. I also believe there are soccer goals woven into the net as well, but not 100% sure on that either.

See I knew that I could trust BG86's judgement at 95 percent sure. I've noticed in the past that he has very good attention to detail, much more so than yours truly who tends to be a seat of the pants estimate type of guy. ;-)

A field that wasn't regulation width would make usage by the 110 difficult to impossible.

When my wife and I were there in November we went to front dsek and saw that no team or the 110 was practicing in the IPf.We asked if it was O.K. to take a walk around.

People at the desk said no problem, have fun.

It would be useless to a football team as well

Easy to figure, walk the sidelines to the numbers and see if you get 9 yards.

Add "Duck Duck Goose" to the list of "Athletic Activities" at the IFP.

What a waste. That doesn't look like regulation DDG.

I know this has been discussed before, but I was just wondering which MAC teams do not have an IPF?

The MAC arms race continues.
Must be nice to have Roethlisberger as a donor after the contract he just signed.
