The phone was flying off the hook earlier today as my family has plans to make the 9/12 Marshall game a big birthday celebration. We tried booking a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday night. We were able to get rooms for Saturday night at the OU Inn but had to settle for the Hampton Inn on Friday because Marshall's team is staying the night at the OU Inn. They must be bitter about us taking them off the schedule or something because that is a **** move to get a block Friday night at the OU Inn the popular hotel for Bobcat Athletics. As an Ohio fan I'm pretty annoyed about this.

That is right. Pretty common occurrence. Certainly happens for the basketball games.

Don't expect an early check in on Saturday. I have waited up to 6PM for a room after the visiting team leaves for Peden for a 2PM kickoff.

Considering this game will probably be a Saturday night game, I don't understand why they just don't drive up Saturday morning.

Since there is a big birthday celebration planned, my guess is that Uncle Wes is trying to turn up in Athens on Friday evening.

For whatever reason, teams almost always arrive the day before and then leave immediately after the game no matter what time the game is.

Many teams stay at a hotel the night before a game, home or away, I believe.

OK Unca Wes, here's a deal: if you'll back off on dissing the Herd for staying at the OU Inn, I'll do my best to lobby the athletic dept to provide shuttle service from wherever you end up staying up to a 50 mile radius.

Jeff, kind of like they did at the Bowl Game a few years ago? :-)

No, OHIO doesn't know how to run a shuttle bus service. Better contact NIU. Those folks really know how to run a good shuttle service. They also stay at the OU Inn when in Athens. ;-) [BTC, it was the MACC not a bowl game.]

To avoid the laundry list of things that could delay the team from arriving on time to the game and having proper prep time for said game. At an away game the pregame walk through, positional meetings, game prep, all happens the night before the game. You really want the team to stay in Athens the night before a game in Kent - and then wake up at 4 am so they can leave by 8 to make sure they make it to the 2pm game on time?

The simple answer is "because teams play better when they do". Why is that true? I'm sure it's lots of small things. No one is out on the town. There is a curfew. They eat healthy foods. They are less apt to be focused on other things than the game.

I've gotta agree with Alan on this one. Why not travel the 90 minutes on the day of game and save a couple thousand bucks? If I were MAC commish (I know, Marshall is not in the MAC), I would seriously consider imposing travel cost restrictions on teams given certain driving distances. OU at Kent? No overnight. BG at Akron, no overnight. These costs are getting out of control.

Great thinking. I'm sure that come-to-OHIO-and-ride-the-bus-on-game-day will start bringing in the 4-star and 5-star recruits.
