I'm certain Chuck Landon will clear this all up.

Some T'erdites acting as rationally as you would expect. I really hope these are just trolls.

Regardless of your thoughts on the gay community, do you really want to deal with LBGQT protesters at the games this fall if he's kept on the team?

Everybody just calm the fvck down...OK ?

Butler went and punched a coupla Ear Queers who were being brazen fags / Ear fans near our campus.

He was rightfully defending the honor of Marshall University; and all this is just a big misunderstanding.

Like I said, Doc will tell him to run the steps after practice or something and everything will be OK afterward.

Next "crisis" please....

Based on what was reported, hate crime charges seems very possible. Hard to see him suiting up again for Marshall.

Rosters I found have him listed with Cato as RS Seniors.

+1 I'm not a fan of "hate crimes" legislation. It doesn't matter who you go out of your way to punch in the face on a city street totally unprovoked. It's a crime. He's a big creep and should be charged appropriately and after he's out of the judicial system, he should be kicked off the team.

He's history in Huntington. http://www.herald-dispatch.com/news/briefs/x370452451/MU-...

ESPN had him listed as a junior.

Stated perfectly.

Not most of them, if you read the Herald-Dispatch story on its website and then look at the comments section.

A coupla dunces on a website cannot be taken to represent "Marshall fans." Most Marshall fans don't want this guy around.

This could get much worse for Marshall...

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/05/07/football...

BUT, that article is just a wee bit contradictory. On the one hand, the "mystery driver" is supposedly still unknown, his identity allegedly shielded by coaches who didn't want to jeopardize his chances in the NFL draft.

On the other, the owner of the vehicle apparently identified the driver to police.

And if there is an image of the driver on the video, it shouldn't be too difficult to compare it to a media guide from last year and find a match.

Still...I'm wondering if Jason Corriher is missing Athens right about now.

I wonder what the response will be from Mr. Nestle of the Daily Beast to the below statement from Marshall?

Statements regarding arrest of Steward Butler

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Interim President Gary G. White issued the following statement this evening:

"We are aware of an online media report today that the Marshall University Athletic Department allegedly 'stonewalled' the Huntington Police Department's investigation into the April 5, 2015, incident concerning Steward Butler.

"Earlier today, I spoke with Athletic Director Mike Hamrick about this report and he is conducting an internal review of the chain of events leading up to Mr. Butler's arrest yesterday.

"As of close of business today, Mr. Hamrick has found absolutely no evidence that anyone in the Athletic Department was shown the video in question prior to Mr. Butler's arrest. Furthermore, he has found no evidence that anyone in the department refused to cooperate fully with the investigation. In fact, it is my understanding that football staff members were not, indeed, shown the video during the investigation, but were shown a screenshot from the video by the investigating officer and immediately identified Mr. Butler as the subject in the photograph.

"Similar to my unequivocal statement yesterday regarding behaviors that are not tolerated at Marshall University, I will add that any confirmed cover-up or stonewalling of an investigation by any Marshall University official would be considered an egregious breach of conduct and will be dealt with appropriately and swiftly, up to and including immediate dismissal.

"Marshall University including its Athletic Department and Police Department and the City of Huntington have a longstanding, trusting and cooperative partnership. I was assured by Mayor Williams today that he has no knowledge of any lack of cooperation, stonewalling or obstruction of any investigation by Marshall University or its Athletic Department.

"In the interest of full transparency, here is an outline of the timeline of events since the April 5, 2015, incident, as I understand it:
Shortly after the April 5, 2015, incident
The Marshall University Athletic Department was initially notified by the Huntington Police Department that there was an investigation into the alleged attack.

May 4, 2015
The Huntington Police Department notified the Marshall University Police Department (MUPD) of the investigation and the pending arrest of Mr. Butler. This is the first time MUPD was made aware of the incident or the investigation.
The chief of the MUPD notified me and the university's chief legal counsel. This is the first time either of us was made aware of the incident or the investigation.

May 5, 2015
Jim Terry, chief of the MUPD, went to the Huntington Police Department and viewed the video. This was, to our knowledge, the first time anyone at Marshall University saw the video.

"Having no knowledge of" the stonewalling doesn't mean it didn't happen. If you stick your head in the sand you will have no knowledge of a lot of things.

They have a direct quote in the Daily Beast from the investigating detective that the coach who gave him his card refused to name either the driver or passenger when shown evidence that apparently showed at least one of them visually whether it be video or picture, depending on who you believe. That's pretty much the definition of stonewalling.

The timeline given seems pretty bogus as well. It's essentially the timeline for the AD himself, not a timeline that reflects the other times members of the athletic department were contacted (AKA members of the coaching staff).

That seems like a lot of time for an investigation where a video was present. But I'm sure the athletic department was fully cooperative during that entire month.

I think this story is going to get bigger, if the mainstream national media gets wind...I'm predicting a coach or two will take the fall.
