Had to share: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/06/sports/football/fire-didnt-stop-a-game-and-50-years-later-the-proof-still-fascinates.html?ref=sports&_r=1&smid%3D=tw-nytsports

“On the other hand, if you’re not fighting the fire, what else are you going to do? You may as well watch a football game.”

I sent the link to my wife because she went to Northfield Mt. Herman. She got a kick out of it.

Probably 30 years ago there was a fire during a game in a concession area at a major league ballpark (I'm thinking either Atlanta, Baltimore or Comiskey) and as I recall they didn't evacuate the stadium; they just kept people out of the section where the fire was. We were a much hardier people then.

Nice pic, thanks. I hadn't see that before, though I've been on that campus before. Indeed, Deerfield and Mount Hermon were arch rivals, so that makes sense. I note from the article that Northfield Mount Hermon no longer plays football.

Or, maybe we just didn't appreciate at the time the extent to which smoke exposure can cause long term problems, particularly since in those days many buildings included a fair amount of asbestos in many forms, such as roofing, floor tile, and pipe insulation.
