This poll and the nomination thread is whats wrong with football, the average fan cannot appreciate the work that these guys put in. We've had many great linemen over the years who never even got a nomination, which we can discuss at lenght all the skill guys. However, nothing wrong with Eric
I'd have to disagree with you, not about our level of knowledge, but about what's wrong with football. Sure, it's true that our knowledge is limited. That's a given. So what? This poll, by it's very nature acknowledges that. It doesn't take itself seriously. Note that the poll is for the "favorite", not the "best". Best is an absolute standard, while favorite is purely subjective. Someone could be our favorite player, and not be very good at all.
If this were a poll to really determine the best players, and were real awards at stake, I'd agree with you, but it's not. It's just an off-season, idle time killing, poll to stimulate conversation, and memories of past players. What is wrong with that? And, how is that something that is wrong with football?
In my opinion what is wrong with football is not that fans enjoy it, and want to talk about it even when it's not being played, but when fans start thinking they know more than they do, and start trying to be more than just fans.
